(... or one of your favorite eras ...)

... which theater of war fascinates you most / do you prefer to play?

(This is a follow-up question to the first poll that seemed to indicate that WW2 is the most popular era for TOAW gaming.)

Thanks for your replies. :)

Currently it's Italy- and the Mediterranean. All in all i found out that i like the mid and late-war scenarios (42+) more than the early ones.

Eastern front - too few units - too much space :D

I'm with Stefan on this one: MTO (probably because there are several very good scenarios in that category more than anything else). Late war Western Front scenarios (from D-Day onwards) come as a close second.
One exception: Braunschweig.

Still waiting for a good eastern front scenario, 1943-45.

1943, the balance year. Can the Germans hold the Red Army indefinately by retreating to tenable fortified lines, and with a fall back strategy with only limited defensive and no offensive operations? If successful, what will the Soviets have to come up with?

Still a matter of 'designer'/ subject, LOL!

Sure! But there is a point where you start looking / checking, or? For me it's the historical interest in a certain era / war / etc.

Or do you have a mental list of "quality designers" from which you would play practically everything regardless of era? :shy:

Voted eastern front but it is actually more of sub-time era of wwII for me.

Favorite would be early war western front followed by early eastern front as germans --war of manouver without the huge density grinds which were to follow in the upcoming years (though in pbem-might not be favorite as allies).

Also, probably like the early west due to it seemingly not be covered as much as other operations (by all publishers & developers Imho)-- don't see as many scenarios or different game for that matter cover the 39' & 40' period as you do with the allied western campaigns ie 43',44',45' and the massive late war eastern battles.

Daniel Mc Bride. He has made quite some good and usually well researched scenarios, look here: http://www.the-strategist.net/RD/scenarii/list_scenario.php?pageNum=0&totalRow=9&Key1=Name&Key2=&Order=ASC&Name=&AuthorName=Daniel%20McBride&StartDate=&EndDate=&MinUnits=0&MaxUnits=0&MinCplx=0&MaxCplx=0&StartTurn=0&EndTurn=0&ToawVersion=0&Location=&MapScale=7&TimeScale=5&UnitScale=7&maxRow=5

Try Operation Mars vs the PO.. it was designed to be played against the weak COW PO, but against Elmer you might have to struggle..

Rather not ... I don't have the time or inclination to play against a computer. Seems like a waste of time. Beating up real people--or getting beaten up by them, mostly--is all that interests me.

Well, truth: I always dl and test-drive some designers/modders scen.s, eh?

As Foggy, anything from Dr. D that's new gets a view, and anything that Silvain psts up, the same.

I like 'monsters' and huge scenarios, so the list isn't all that large, LOL! I vet the various 'scenario design' and new scenario DL pages, so it's not that hard to keep up, eh? Especially since I've been 'checking out' scenarios since WOTY version....

Unlike yourself, Herr Heldenkaiser, I'm mostly in it for the 'history' learning part. Yet to play to 'kill' , LOL! That was the 'old days'......

Hallo Freund

I'm fascinated by the may june 1940 area, I have some scenario in mind with many what if
- De Gaulle ideas for a modern armored force are accepted
- Général Lafontaine do not waste his time the 13th of May and was abble to close the Sedan Pocket
- 3rd DCR and 3rd DML did a victorious counter attack at Stonne and Guderian must stop his ride to the sea
- Guderian and Rommel obey Hitler orders and stop their race to the sea permitting French and Brits to escape and reinforce the Weygand line

I did an AAR about a scenario on Fall of France against Rasmus and France won !!!

All in all only one point is to be kept in mind, Guderain and Von Manstein were real opart genious here

To fight against PO is a good way to learn the deep mechanisms of the game, not the strategy to use

Its helps but latter all stay in your way to manage your strategy

I voted Med Theatre. However, my all0time favourite scenario is EUrope Aflame, which encompassed the entire war.

Heh. It's actually not as complex as some people make it out to be. Certainly no where near as time consuming as, say, Fire in the East.
