View Full Version : Weather conditions questions

1) If a weather change called for at less than 100% does not occur on first turn called, does program retry it on all subsequent turns until it happens or a different weather change is called?
2) I see there are six weather types designed for Campaign Waterloo. Can scenario designers create others of their liking if they want to fiddle with various factors?
3) Is No Cavalry Charges the only possible flag? Are others programmed in for possible use, or can original ones be designed?
4) When weather conditions slow movement, why do routing units still move six hexes?
5) Any chance of seeing localized weather, ala TAOW so you can have a thunderstorm at Ligny, while its partly cloudy at Quatrebras?

I'm not sure of 1-4, but I'd say that #5 is highly unlikely.

#1 - I believe this is correct.

#2 - Any kind of situation can be set for weather, it is typed into the pdt file. So you could just have 'eyes closed' for a zero visability event.

#3 - The only flag is cavalry charges that I've heard of.

#4 - I think that is correct.

#5 - I have not heard of anything in the works along those lines.

Al,
4) When weather conditions slow movement, why do routing units still move six hexes?

I know it happens, I dont think it is an accurate simulation of the rout process. Come to think of it, I dont think infantry routing six hexes, sometims forward, or willy-nilly over cav and disordering Them is exactly accurate, either.

Welcome back, btw.

Oh, the less you think about the rout system, the better. That is one of the bigger holes, and I'm not sure which is worse, the rout logic (you mention) or the fact that you then get to control the routers in your turn.

The Rout Logic was discussed at Tiller-Con II

I hadnt thought about the latter but it is unrealistic. Think anything will come of Tiller-Con discussion?

Hard to be sure. There were a few different things discussed, and those things will be put into the priority queue, along with whatever comes out of the design teams.

What makes it worse, is that since I was there for the discussions, not only on the Nap engine, but also the EAW and ACW engines, I can't entirely remember what was said on what engine :devious:

I do think the rout logic will be redone at some point, but no clue how far down the line "some point" is.
