I must say I realy love this forum. Iam also a fan of flightsims and so I also visit e.g. the UBI Zoo. There people keep bashing and slashing at each other.:bite: Everyone thinks his opinion is the only one that counts. When I come here I see mature, intelligent people arguing in a polite manner. Its really a pleasure. But in my opinion this is always the case in Naval forums. Thanks to all of you for alöways giving me a nice time here. :)

Hmm give it time :)

I've seen some good squabbles from the Harpooners before.

Almost as bad as the ASLers :)

(I completely agree, this is a very mature and cosy forum, where even delicate matters are being discussed in a tranquil way)

Thanks for saying this about the forum Crinius and yes it is a good forum and site to be at. One thing I found out is that there are a lot of good people who act and think like adults. Yes sometimes some do not agree but it gets worked out.
As a flight sim player , I know what you are saying. I have seen people hurt from one of the sites, I have seen where a few years back some even went to another's house and attacked him for something that he did not even have anything to do with.
There is no reason for something like that to ever happen ,but at Game Squad the owner keeps a good eye on what is up and puts a stop to a issue when it is needed. But one of the main things here is that we let people say what they want and try not to edit out there post or limit what they say as long as it does not get out of hand.
And with the people here when you write them a pm and ask them not to carry on with what was said , almost all stop and go on with the game.

I think that at the sites that have a lot of issues are the ones that are full of kids, that think they can do what they want without recourse.
I do know of what happened above that I spoke of , they went to Jail ,one for a few years, and quite a few people ended up paying a whole lot of money to repay what they had done. But the thing that surprised me was it did not cause the forum to stop what caused the issue in the first place. And it still carries on to this day as far as I can see. I quit going there and a whole lot of other did also, and I will not go back. That just hurts the games ,a lot. And I hope to never see anything like that again.

What you stated is one of the reasons I came here. I could talk and play the games I liked without having to sort through the fighting in the forums to be able to talk and learn and just have fun.

I agree. The moderators here and on the 'other side' make these forums some of the best on the web AFAIC.

Well, flight sims are lot more popular than warship sims (more's the pity). The flight sim forums I frequent do tend to get a little 'problematic' once in a while............ lots of huffing and puffing and 'I'm not going to play with you any more'.

Nice to have a place to discuss stuff without the diatribes.

Maybe it's in part because pre-dreadnoughts as a sim subject attract a fundamentally different crowd than something like a flight sim?

I think games like DG appeal to a more mature (in years or behavior) player. Slowly-unfolding dramatic action that is heavy on planning and foresight is so different from a flight sim, which is more like an adreanline-fueled first-person shooter. Those naturally appeal to a younger set with a shorter attention span.

Whatever the reason I agree that this is a very civil forum, thanks to moderators and posters alike. :-)

Ah, flightsim forums. Such pleasant memories of ancient flamewars past :PIMP:

It still surprises people to learn that persistent-world MMO flightsims have been around since the late 1980s. I got into them in the early 90s and couldn't believe they'd existed so long before, because at that point in time (when I considered myself something of a geek and hacker) I thought the internet was a) email and hacker newsgroups, b) FTP sites to hack into, and c) text-based games. There weren't even porn sites yet because at 600-baud, nobody had the time to upload or download pics of sufficient resolution to be worthwhile. Besides, even browsers were text-based, so there were no thumbnails to check first ;).

In those days, the term "home computer" had recently been replaced by "PC", and more people had them than a few years previously, but most of the new owners just balanced their checkbooks with them. About the only people who owned modems and got online were the real geeks and hackers. And the most competitive of these people gravitated to the MMO flightsims.

It was the Wild West back then. The people involved were all pioneers, all intelligent, all adults, and all at least borderline sociopathic loners, who'd never been able to beat anybody at anything outside of chess. Now suddenly they could pretend to be killing each other. And there were no "terms of service", no rules, no nothing. So both the in-game text chats and the game-related newsgroups and "bulletin boards" (as they callled forums back then) were absolutely FILLED profanity-laced diatribe. But because those involved were pretty intelligent, the sophistication of the insults made them things of beauty. I still have a bunch saved on disk that I read periodically :).

"Griefing" was an accepted part of the experience. I mean, the whole game was PvP to begin with, and the game usually sucked due to hardware limitations of the time, so the most entertainment was found in ruining somebody else's night. And the best way to do that was to exploit some well-know shortcoming of the game. Then bragging about it later, in hopes of starting a flamewar. And the game company reps would wade in with the same style of writing and smack down customers who complained about the game problem that let them be griefed so much. Everything was what would now be called a "personal attack", but that was expected. You either took your hits and responded in kind, or you ran away crying to the jeers of everybody else. I was a willing and frequent participant in the mayhem, too. Ah, damn, that was fun :devious:

I still do these MMO flightsims (Aces High, at present), but times have sure changed. And that's taken away a lot of the appeal. Nowadays, you get banned for exploiting bugs and you get banned for insulting somebody, no matter how witty you make it. It's a damn shame .

For those that are into IL2 try the forums at Battle-fields.com (http://www.battle-fields.com/commscentre/index.php). We run the UK Dedicated servers. We do get our share of 'you stole my kill' argument but generally it's a very friendly and civilised place, not at all like the Ubi Zoo.

Sorry to the mods here for the shameless plug, but in my defence, yer honour, I have pointed a few guys from there over to here as well. :)

No problem With the post that I can see. I just do not want this to turn into a bash thread. That will lead to no where.
