View Full Version : Number of PMs Cut From 100 to 60

For those of you who missed it (which is probably almost everyone as I can not find an announcement about it), our PM limit on this forum was recently reduced from 100 to only 60. See:

http://www.gamesquad.com/forums/showthread.php?t=69017

As a result of this change, I could not get a PM about COG Tournament from Kerry. Although the message finally got through when I deleted some PMs, this was not well done GS folks!

What the hell do you need to store 100 private messages for anyway? There is no way that you having to delete a few year old messages caused you any hardship other than making you make a few mouse clicks.

There is a civil way to approach things and coming in here pissing and moaning like that isn't going to do much but make people mad.

My suggestion is to quit crying and appreciate what you have.

In fact I had 61, with 39 left. In my world a 40% reduction, especially without notice is significant.

Thanks for your concern!

BTW I have been at this site for years before you arrived, so your intemperate "advice" is neither helpful nor constructive. I certainly enjoyed what appears to the first post in the CM section.

Hah!! I am sorry, I really must compare my join date with the persons whose thread I am replying to next time. Unbelievable.

I couldn't care less if you were the first person to join this site. You post something whining like a child and I am going to post something calling you out.

BenI'm not sure what the point of "calling you out" is, but flaming someone for having a viewpoint that differs from yours is not good manners. I don't know what you hoped to accomplish by that but a little diplomacy goes a long way.

edited for grammar - hadn't had my morning coffee yet!

The point was that I am sick of people complaining about services that they get for free. No one charges anything for you to be a member of this community. The private message limit was restructured to increase as your forum level increases. Check out http://www.gamesquad.com/forums/faq.php?faq=titles#faq_list_usertitles

No one hid this information from you. It's right there in the FAQ. For someone to come in here and blame the fact that they couldn't receive any more PMs on GameSquad rubs me the wrong way.

You are right in saying diplomacy goes a long way. However, sometimes certain things need to be said and it's easier to just say what's on your mind instead of trying to beat around the bush. If you are going to criticize something, you open yourself up to criticism. If your feelings get hurt that easily, maybe it's time to re-evaluate how much emphasis you put on the opinion of someone on the internet.

If your feelings get hurt that easily, maybe it's time to re-evaluate how much emphasis you put on the opinion of someone on the internet. I don't think it's a question of feelings being hurt, but as you say the impulse to be "sick and tired of" something. Just like it's easy to get sick and tired of those, on any given forum, who feel the urge to bash others at seemingly the slightest unbalancing of their sensibilities. So if one should put littlle importance on what others say on the net then there's almost no point in saying it. On the other hand, simply pointing out that this information was there in the FAQ for all to see would have made your point just as well, without insults flying, and possibly made him feel foolish over his criticism.

Point taken

So if one should put littlle importance on what others say on the net then there's almost no point in saying it.
But then I would miss out on these colorful exchanges like ours

I am not sure where I insulted anyone unless you consider my telling him to quit crying an insult. However, I understand what you are driving at. As I said before though, sometimes you just have to speak your mind. Take that as you will.

Hmm myself, I am more concerned for Don with all the changes, and it's effect on HIM than me actually.

But myself, I delete messages fairly frequently, myself, I just ain't into hoarding them. Ranks with saving old newspapers. But I'm not going to rag on a guy for liking saving theirs, although I can find it odd, but not going to rag on him over it.

Leftie, I have to admit you have replied to a couple of MY posts recently in a pointless obnoxious tone. Personally I think it is out of keeping with what I have come to expect of you actually.

On the matter of how long one has been here, heck I have been here as long, and have been a prolific poster (one of the sites most prolific), my rep (not that rep matters) is substantive, and have the most read blog on the site. Then again, it's the REASON that it's the most read that needs to be remembered :)
But all that didn't keep me from getting a 24 hour ban for shooting off my mouth a while back :)
So one has to be wary of attaching too much importance to oneself here :)

I kinda wish there WAS a fee to join and use ACG and Gamesquad. I'd pay it, and it likely would improve the nature of the place.

Ben

Yes--that was an insult and taken as such.

Ben--what the he** business of yours to be the forum police?!

Other than informing the other folks on the CM section that the number of PMs had been reduced without an announcement (e.g. something that appears as a news item or a like listing on the home page and not a change in the FAQs that almost no one reads for "updates" on even a semi-regular basis), my comment was directed to the our CM mod. The PM I almost missed was information about a SZO (now GS) CM tournament from the person running same. Almost all the PMs I kept are communications back and forth with mods and other people running CM tournaments here.

Like viewing over the air TV, being a part of GS is free. Yet both depend on advertising to pay the bills and that advertising would not be placed without "viewers". These TV stations and Don have said on numerous occasions that they welcome members posting concerns and problems. I was and am disappointed when things are changed on this or any other site in which I participate that affects its members, especially when something is taken away or significantly reduced. This is especially true when "management" does not properly inform us of such a change. I maintain that this describes the instant case. From a technical/notice of changes perspective Don runs and has run a pretty good site, going all the way back to the early days of Warfare HQ. But on this "little issue" GS dropped the ball. Had they not, the thread linked in my first post would have never been on the forum.

You know what? You are right. It isn't my business to be forum police. My original post was a knee jerk reaction. I helped moderate the forums for a while but had to step down because of work hours and not being able to devote enough time to it. Sometimes it's easy to lapse back into what is familiar.

Fair enough--let's put it behind us.

Probably a better place to have posted this would have been the Talkback forum. That would have ensured that people that have some input in the issue would see it. I haven't noticed the reduction as Mods don't have the same limits.

Now depending on your "level" your are allowed between 25 and 200 PMs.
