View Full Version : More Game Questions (I never tire of inventing more)

Hi all!

Actually I feel compelled to post something, anything just to break the monotony of seeing only new TOAW threads in the forum. I guess this is partly because many CM gamers are busy playing the long anticipated CMBB, and certainly not because of a decline in the CM community (I hope?!)
Anyway, there are still some perks of the game that I haven't mastered yet. Here's a list:
1. (I already asked that previously) How to use assault boats? Loaded troops won't step of the boats unless I beach them, but if I do the boats are stuck. What to do?
2. It seems to me that guns (AT or Inf) are particularly vulnerable to HE explosions behind them, the shield offering protection from shrapnel and small arm fire to the front. Is that true?
3. Has anybody ever witnessed an allied tank/TD/gun actually use those titanium rounds they are sometimes issued? Not I....
4. Has anybody ever witnessed a Panther destroyed by a hit on that mythical sweet-spot, the "shot trap"? Not I....
5. Apart from titanium rounds or shot trap, can the US 76mm gun sometimes defeat a Panther's front armor?
There, just a few thoughts :hmmm:

Hi....

1) I haven't once used those boaties but in CMBO they are real bullet magnets. I've read how axis tanks try to shoot them even if there are enemy tanks in plain sight  Talk about gamey issues...
2) ATGs are vulnerable to HE yes but I haven't really paid attention to killing shots. If your theory is right one should probably manually target right behind the ATG even if the gun is in plain sight
3) In CMBO tungsten is used every now and then but not in regular base. I believe ATG tungsten is more likely to be used but don't count on it - ALWAYS TRY TO GET FLANK/REAR SHOTS. In CMBB I haven't played too many game to see them in action.
4) In CMBO Panthers were quite often killed from the front - even with 37mm gun (Greyhound etc). In CMBB again I have no knowledge so far...
5) US 76mm ATG should be able to slice through Panther turret up to 500m or so but as Panties are not going to wait you to bracket in I don't advice those frontations. In CMBO quite usual success but in CMBB axis optics gives quite an edge to Panties :crosseye:

Hope this helps little bit :)

I read somewhere that late war German tanks - panther notably - lacked proper alloys in their armor makeup due to shortages. This caused an overly hard and sometimes brittle armor that would crack upon impact. The CMBB manual mentions this as well, though not singling out the panther.
I'm guessing that this is why a 37mm US gun would be able to penetrate a panther frontally sometimes though I've never seen that happen. On paper, a panther should be able to laugh at a 37 from the front:clown:
