Subject says it all, where do I put the two new *.bmp files?

DA/Icons/ seems to have *.iso files.

Per Don's previous CFFZ post Jim indicates the Icons folder.

New icons MUST be in the .ico format! Not sure where you got the info that bitmaps can be used.

I know this for fact because myself and another guy I work with bought Axialis Icon Workshop so we could create our own icons for DA and other simulations.

The current version of the game has a flaw that causes and error and a crash because it can't find the "cffz.bmp." Col Lunsford is aware of it and posted the files in our misc files section. They apparently work because now I can plot CFFZ without any problems.

Jesus Christ, I hate this HPS patch mess.

Jim posted two BMP files as "missing from the last patch". No instructions where to put them, I cannot follow up in the thread in the posting section to ask. And yes of course I figured that BMP files wouldn't belong in a directory where only *.icos hang out.

What gives?

Don, but where, pretty please, do I put them?

As far as I know the bmp files are the correct ones (as is). The error doesn't say, "couldn't find CFFZ.ico." It says it can't find "CFFZ.bmp." This error happened every time you attempted to plot a CFFZ marker. I pointed this out to Jim and he said he forgot to include them in the patch, but he would update the patch ASAP.

He is the message he sent me along with the two .bmp files:

Don,
Place these two files in the icons folder. I will update the patch and

add these ASAP.

Jim

Are people still having problems after placing these in the icons folder? I'm not sure why they are .bmp instead of .ico, but this is apparently correct.

OK, so they actually go to the directory with the ico files although they are and are supposed to be bmp.

I have asked Jim to clarify this, but I'm 99.9% certain you just place them in the Icons folder. You don't need to change the names or anything like that.

Yes, they go into the Icons folder as bmp files. Is everyone missing these bmp files? I'm not. I am wondering, Don, if somehow you accidentally deleted them from your folder. I have never had a problem with the using CFFZ function or the SEAD function, except in using them effectively :( . I checked my Icons folder and they are both there. I would recommend that people check their folder to see if the bmp files are there.

Same w/me. I downloaded and tried to put them in the icons file and was told they were already there. And as far as I know, I have the very latest patch from HPS.

I may have downloaded a very early version of the patch which didn't have them and Jim has already corrected it. At any rate, we do know that the Icons folder is where they go. Either way, it should no longer be a problem.

Okay, sorry, I apologize. The CFZ/CFFZ markers are, in fact, .bmp's. The unit icons are, in fact, .ico files. Sorry for the mistake.

An *.ico file is not a specific file format like gif or bmp, BTW, it is just a filename placeholder which you can fill with a gif or bmp or whatever you like (of course, depending on the software which is supposed to read it).

DA uses .ico files. You cannot use .bmp's or anything else for the unit icons in DA,...they MUST be .ico files.

Curt: Martin's point was, I believe, is that you can change the file type from .bmp to .ico

ie, my copy of PSP7 allows me to save a .png file as a .ico file.

CPangracs

I understand that, but my point is is that it is definitely a file "type", not a placeholder. The file MUST be an ico file for unit icons. How you MAKE it an ico file is really irrelevant, IMO.:D
