My First MMO Game

My boss at work is really into Guild Wars and has been wanting me to pick it up and try it. I am seriously considering it. What should I be looking for in this game? First off I dont want to have to pay a rediciulous monthly service charge. Thats wacked out. So what makes this game so popular over all the others?

I don't think Guild Wars has a monthly fee, so you shouldn't need to worry about that.
