Hey guys,
I'm a bit confused by several supply issues in the game. If anybody has any insight/advice into these please let me know :D
1) I lost Egypt as the Allies and Gibralter and am basically cut off from the Mediterranean. If i landed Russian troops in Iraq around the Suez Canal, would they receive supply on the sea road coming from Basra? Is that a viable attack?
2) The briefing says "The event list supports Narvik shifting ownership an unlimited number of times, with the consequent supply shifts." I took Narvik in mid 1942 with American infantry then handed it off to the Russians coming overland from Petsamo. The supply numbers around Narvik when i checked the supply overlay were like 8 or 9 for the area, versus 27, 28 etc around other railroaded supply sources. Is this normal?
Now many turns later in the fall of 1942 I invaded Sweden with the Russians and the supply numbers around Narvik are higher. Also I sent Russian troops across the mountains, halfway between Trondheim and Narvik, south into the forests of Sweden. They have managed to stay supplied throughout the movement and cut the railroad line supply the northeastern Swedish divisions. I'm a bit confused as to why my supply was mediocre at first and then later improved? I dont know what i did or didn't do?
3) Also, the briefing says "Unless explicitly stated, recapturing the hex does not reverse the supply shift. " So if i invade Normandy by using the Overlord theater option and then lose that Overlord hex, its gone forever right? Even though the Axis possess it in the first place? Just need to clarify before I invade! :bite:
Thanks gentlemen and thanks also for updating this awesome scenario!
Hey guys,

By Sea? Are they going through the neutral Turkish port of Constinople?
If Basra is still under Allied control supply will flow along that sea supply road. I'd need more exact details of your current situation to properly answer this question.
Yes. The Allies can have very poor supply around Narvik.
What the brieifing is refering to is the 3 supply that gets subracted from the Axis when the Allies control the port. It is then added to Axis supply when the Axis regain control of the port. This can happen any number of times.
You, undoubtedly, have a fully supplied railroad that ends closer to the area than you did before. Again, I would need more exact details to answer this more specifically.
:bite:
No. What it means is that, i.e. The Allies lose X supply when they lose Baku. Unless the briefing specifically states that that supply can be regained by recapturing the hex, then it can't.
Supply Points, on the other hand, are never taken away in Europe Aflame. You could invade and loose the Cherbourg/Overlord invasion site SPs a hundred times and the Allied SP will always be there, ready to supply you some more.
I would love to hear what the situation is like in your game and who you are playing against.
P.S. I thought the, new, ambulance icon was appropriate. :D

hey Veers,
Thanks for answering my questions.
As for the Suez Amphibious Landing- the Axis control Turkey, Syria & Egypt. So a landing of Russian troops would travel from Basra to the south side of the Suez Canal near the Red Sea. There is a sea supply road there but would that keep a landing supplied?
I am playing Serge (been playing War in Russia and now this against him for years now) and he is the Axis and I am the Allies. It is fall 1942, and he is stuck on the Eastern Front (no Barbarossa) because Stalin joined the war once the Germans took Ankara. He has Gibralter, Spain & the Med and is now losing ground to me in Norway and Sweden & Finland. I have RUssian troops from Sweden all the way down to Basra, Iraq! I think because the Russians have suffered minor losses compared to the historical war i have a good shot of grinding him down in Scandinavia and then flanking him with a 1943 Overlord...
Now i know you have 3 games going Veers, tell me about the toughest one :)

As long as you have control over the hex(es) that the road contects onto (Suez, if memory serves), you should be supplied (unless Serge blocks the road with his navy).

Are all your America and Commonwealth troops in the UK, waiting for a chance to srtike?

I actually have four EA games going on. Shadow, Shane (Mantis), Murat Gunay (Wonderwall), and Mark Stevens.
It's hard, really, to say which is the toughest.
Shane and I have hardly gotten started do to his and my time constraints. '39.
I have been invading Shadow in the Soviet Union for the last six months due to his time constraints. I am doing well, I think, but I did not get the Barbarossa bonus as I, foolishly, attacked the UK and did not win there right away. My troops advanced into the USSR as soon as Shadow Declared War, and have made good progress. Late Summer '40
I have taken Everything from Spain, to North Africa, to Iraq (and this is with the new rules in 3.4 that limit the Axis in NA) against Mr. Gunay, but not Turkey or the UK, and I can't remember if I have Norway, and it is 1940. I have yet to launch my attack on the Soviet Union. However, since I control the Middle East my attack on the Soviet Union should be made vastly easier because I can attack up through the Caucuses. Current Summer '40.
Mark Steven foolishly took out Poland and then launched an early attack on the USSR before the Sitz, so he was stopped well short of Moscow/Stalingrad when the Sitz hit. Winter '40-'41 saw a successful Soviet WInter Offensive that took some ground, and Winter '41-'42 saw another. The line currently runs from Lake Ladoga (Mark has Leningrad) to Gomel to Kiev and almost straight south to the Back Sea from there. He has Spain and Gibraltar, but I have Norway, the UK, NA, and Corsica and Sardinia. Current Spring '42.

Wow, an attack on the USSR before the Sitzkrieg? I like the boldness tough :). I don't know what you guys think, but from every game I play and every book I read, i come to the same conclusion: the global war was decided on the Eastern Front. Saving Private Ryan & Band of Brothers are great movies and books, but especially in America people don't realize it was teh Russians who seemed to have won the war...
By the way, the Supply Column units in the game are supply sources correct? Realized i need to include them in my Scandinavian amphibious landings...

I think that to say the Soviets won it is false. However, I would say they had the largest hand in it.

No, They are not supply sources. They only add a supply bonus to an already supplied area. They only supply source for the Axis in Norway is Oslo.

followup: Operation Overlord commenced May 1943, a surprise attack as Russians stepped up their attack near East Prussia (Sweden & Finland conquered during the winter by the Red Army). Landed about 9 infantry corps and took 5 hexes, paratroopers near Caen managed to slow down German panzer reinforcements. 80% of the paratroopers also miraculously survived and were evacuated back to England. Getting supply from hex 55,49. I also made a diversionary landing at Calais to soak off more German reinforcements from the Falaise Pocket.
Anyway this brings up a second question, with Sweden in Allied hands, can a landing in Denmark be supplied?? No Normandy style hex there, would the cities on the coast help? Calais doesn't seem to have any supply on its own...

I'm at work rght now, so I can't look at the map, but, if memory serves, there is a Sea Supplu Road that runs from Swedento Denmark that could be used to supply an attack there.
