BURIED ANTI-TANK MINES TEST DEMONSTRATION

PIC 1 -The Russians have placed a minefield in this gap
http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g64/PoorOldSpike/mine1.jpg

PIC 2 - But of course the Germans can't see it yet
http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g64/PoorOldSpike/mine2.jpg

PIC 3 - The Germans begin moving and the leading infantry platoon walks straight through the mines without seeing or triggering them, because only tanks and vehicles trigger AT-mines..
http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g64/PoorOldSpike/mine3.jpg

PIC 4 - However when the armoured car tries to move through, it's blown up and the mine icon appears on the map.
This is the ONLY way in CM to find buried AT-mines, by having something drive over them and get toasted, which is why it's a good idea to let cheap cars lead an armoured advance instead of valuable tanks.
Note -there's a 33% chance a minefield won't be triggered when entered, and you still won't know there's one there, but you can always send two or more cars through gaps to increase the chance of triggering.
Oh, and although you can use jeeps, kubels and trucks instead of armoured cars, it's not a good idea because they're very fragile and can be hurt too easily by enemy small arms fire, and often won't survive long enough to lead your advance..
http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g64/PoorOldSpike/mine4.jpg

PIC 5 -I order the pioneer platoon to run into the minefield to clear it because ordinary infantry can't clear mines..
http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g64/PoorOldSpike/mine4A.jpg

PIC 6- They throw satchel charges (arrowed) into the minefield and bingo, its cleared (inset - notice the mine icon disappears)..
http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g64/PoorOldSpike/mine5.jpg

PIC 7 - Breakthrough! the panzers stream through the cleared gap..(pushing the immobd car to one side!)

DAISYCHAIN AT-MINES

PIC 1 - Daisies are easily seen because they sit on top of the ground..
http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g64/PoorOldSpike/dais1.jpg

PIC 2 - Move your pioneers up to them..
http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g64/PoorOldSpike/dais2.jpg

PIC 3 - And after a short while they vanish (inset)..

ANTI-PERSONNEL MINES

PIC 1 - The road up ahead looks clear because the mines are buried..
http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g64/PoorOldSpike/pers1.jpg

PIC 2 - An armoured car drives through them without seeing or triggering them because only infantry will trigger them..
http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g64/PoorOldSpike/pers2.jpg

PIC 3 - The leading infantry platoon walks into the minefield, triggering it and taking casualties. That's the only way to find anti-personnel mines, by walking somebody into them to trigger them. Its icon now appears on map.
Infantry triggers anti-personnel mines 80% of the time..
http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g64/PoorOldSpike/pers4.jpg

PIC 4 - The pioneers are ordered up to throw satchel charges (arrowed) and successfully clear the mines (inset).
WARNING - don't walk them nearer than 10 metres to the mine icon or they'll get blown up themselves.
Note the survivors of the infantry platoon up front crawled through and around the field and formed up further on, minus a few individual men..

GENERAL NOTES

MINES
I always lead my tank advance with a few cheap low-qual armoured cars out front because the ONLY way to discover buried AT mines is to drive something over them to trigger a detonation.
Sure the car will die or be immobd but at least the following tank column will then know the mines are there and slam their brakes on ;)
Try not to use softskin jeeps, kubels or trucks to spot for mines because they'll usually quickly die or retreat under a burst of enemy small-arms before they get near the mines. Use light armoured cars, that's what they're for..
("Go down that road til you get blown up" - Gen Patton to a recce troop commander)..

MINE DETONATION CHANCES

AT MINES
Pz IVH has an approx 66% chance of detonating a buried mine (or a daisychain) on "Hunt" and "Fast" speeds.
The detonation has a 28% chance of killing the tank, otherwise its immobilised.

Kubelwagen has same 66% chance of detonating a mine on "Move" and "Fast" speed.
But the detonation ALWAYS kills the Kubel.

ANTI-PERSONNEL MINES
An infantry squad has an 80% chance of triggering an anti-personnel mine whether walking or running. The survivors will then try to crawl out, and other squads will avoid entering the spotted minefield.

(Note:- to arrive at the above results I did 60 separate systematic tests, entering a total of 500 individual minefields. No big deal it only took me a few hours thanks to the power of the editor)

Note - Only Daisies can be placed on Paved roads.
All 3 kinds of mine can be placed on dirt roads

Note - If Engs have no DC's they can still clear DAISYCHAINS ONLY by running up to them in the usual way.
But they MUST have DC's to clear buried AT-mines and anti-personnel mines.
Incidentally, ORDINARY INF WON'T CLEAR DAISIES even though they're sitting on top of the ground, perhaps that's because only engineers are trained to pick them up safely and watch for booby-traps etc

I am printing all of the stuff I come across from your info on different sites and I will compile it into a book form. Maybe send you a copy to autograph.:smoke:

And don't forget to send me a cut of the royalties mate.. ;)
Incidentally all my stuff is at the Blitz Tac Discussion forum so lift it all from there if you like.
Some of it might be repeated at a few other sites too, but like I said, Blitz is the only place that has it all.

Good job POS!

I have 2 questions: 1) Will engineers be able to clear a minefield if they have no DC's left? 2) Why can't vehicles trigger an anti-personnel mine? Surely the vehicle weighs more than a foot soldier. :) Is this another CM glitch?

(i'll go edit that into my mines post, thanks)

2 - I'll do a net search to find out the answer to 2, stand by..
