Hi all

The latest ANW and 3.6 "Mega-zips" contain the new scenario St Maarten.
Frans' Taitennek site will soon also host this scen which is one of a new Battleset "Hugo's Folly" that I'm working on.

The idea behind St Maarten came out of the many press articles around the aniversary of the Falklands war; specifically the suggestion that such an operation would be impossible now that the Royal Navy has less than 20% of the ships it had in 1982. Similarly there was a recent election in the Netherlands Antilles and Venezuela is definitely rearming and threatening.
The Dutch Navy is similarly reduced in size - to something like 7 or 8 Frigates at this time. But then the quality and arnament of the ships is so much improved that I thought it would be interesting to see how few Dutch Forces would fare in a Falkland-like war against an opponent with good systems though a generation earlier. The arrival of the first Flankers made this scenario even more interesting.

The scenario has been tested in 3.6 and ANW; there are a few small points in ANW that I know don't work quite as well as in 3.6 but overall the scen is very playable in ANW. The next installment in this battleset is in test and I've currently got a total of 4 scens in mind.

I'll try to design them in a way that I can some day organise a MP-tournament or allow players to play each successive scen only with the surviving forces of the prior scen.

Have fun.
