I've received some really good questions about CM Battle Points and Ratings. The posts below are copied from an exchange between me and 2054172 (Wayne) that occurred in the staff area.

I think this will help folks understand some of the nuances of the CM ladder scoring.

> -KM- AROUND LAKE BALATON (CMBB)
> one game = 105 points, other = 137 points??

Hey Wayne - I'm not going to review all of these but the answer to almost all the points questions is "bonus points"!

The basic formula for CM points (see the FAQ (http://www.gamesquad.com/forums/wfhq-ld-faq.php#CM_points)) for games over 2001 purchase points is 10 + Purchase Points/100. The scenario above has 9496 pp so the formula is 10 + 95 (round up) = 105 base points. Then, depending on the rating of each player, extra points are award if a lower rated player beats a higher rated player. (See this linky (http://www.gamesquad.com/forums/wfhq-ld-faq.php#RatingSystem))

For the game with 137 total points for the same scenario, the bonus points come into play:

Nik [Conscript]: 95 pts Victor Charlie [Elite]: 42 pts

Nik won the game so he gets a bonus. The bonus is 105 * .60 * (7-2) * 10% = 32 bonus points for Nik. So, Nik's total points awarded are 63 + 32 = 95.

Victor Charlie meanwhile suffered a minor defeat so he gets 40% of the base points 105 * .40 = 42 points. The total is then 95 + 42 = 137

> -How can 2 MEETING ENGAGEMENT both worth 1500 points be worth different
points? 64 v 75?? (VCv Marine Raider, VCv Captain Kirk)I've you can give me the specific reports in question, I'm sure it's an issue of the bonus points. Or, be sure they are comparing Meeting Engagements to Meeting Engagements. A CM QB of say Axis Attacks is scored different from a Meeting Engagement.

> -2000 point ME's used to be worth 30 points now worth 80 points? One even
worth 94?? (VCv Ratski) Again, specific game reports and I'll explain this. I can't find any player in CM that matches Ratski.

> -How come operations are worth the same as any 1 game scenario when they take
3-10 game depending on battles played? Shouldn't they be mutiplied by number of
battles??They are multplied.

> -How can one Operation be worth 149 points (13893 purchase points) and
another 956 points (18097 purchase points)???This is an example of that multiplication process. The one with 956 points had a 5 multiplier [scenario is MAGNUSZEW BRIDGEHEAD (CMBB - OPS)].

If you go to this listing of all the CM Scenarios and Ops (http://www.gamesquad.com/forums/wfhq-ld-scenario-list.php?scenario=&type=s&ladder=CM%253A%2BScenarios%2Band%2BOperations&ScenarioSearch=Search+for+Scenario), the multiplier (if there is one) is listed after the name of the scenario.

I understand what you are saying, but as in the case of Mangus or Myself we have never been close to being crack or vetern So I don't see how the above applies to us.
The answer came to me late yesterday! I can't believe I spent so much time on what should have been obvious. What you are seeing is a left over effect of having "sub-ladders". Technically, the CM ladder is really two ladders: CM: Quick Battles (http://www.gamesquad.com/forums/wfhq-ld-ladder-games.php?ld=on&ladder=CM:+Quick+Battles&viewuser=6582) and CM: Scenarios and Operations (http://www.gamesquad.com/forums/wfhq-ld-ladder-games.php?ld=on&ladder=CM:+Scenarios+and+Operations&viewuser=6582)

If you follow the links to the two sub-ladders, you'll see that on the QB ladder, you are a regular. But on the Scenario and Operations ladder you are a Crack player. The combined rating comes out to Regular. That's what is normally seen now.

I can see where that looks very confusing. Not quite sure how to resolve the issue but ... the ladder is working properly! The display is just odd since we switched to having the WARS rating too.

I've you have questions about how a specific battle was scored, be sure to post the complete url to the game report. I'll do a few of them to help you guys get the feel for it.

Thanks for the info there, I raised these points issues with Wayne, looks like i missed that section on bonus points in the FAQ, sorta explains everything now. Also its 'Ratzki' not Ratski! :)
Regarding the operations it looks like the operation I was using as an example did not have the multiplier, hence the problem (it was B&T BEGINNING OF THE END).
