I am thinking of something for a XIXth century scenario.

Armies would travel with their supply wagons, etc. instead of tracing supply to a far away source.

the question is:
if I do no put any supply sources (or make them short range - like only in large cities - and a supply radius of a few kilometers), and then use a supply counter that moves followng the armies but beyond that range, would the armies still be in supply?

I'd like to simulate the effect of the supply train beeing the main source of supply of 19th century armies...

You could have it where a supply point is placed when that force reaches a certain hex or captures a city, have an event place a supply point if force1 occupy hex(x,y). Could get bad though, depending how big yer map is...

It'll be in supply, just low numbers.

I am trying something like that.

One thing I don't get is the supply range. I am testing scenarios with different supply ranges, but it seems to make no effect. anyone has trried that in extenso?

Have you tried the display the supply values option for each hex? Hexes away from supply sources should get diminished supply as you lower the supply range.
