Played a multiplayer game on an 81x81km map last night. Wow! It turned into a titantic naval battle, and due to the extreme size of the map neither side could muster enough power to breach the other's defenses. Most of the super units are too slow and vulnerable to move nearly 80km across the ocean. The one that was really effective was the UEF submersible carrier.
I finally won the battle after several hours of back and forth action. I put together a task force of Cybran battleships and pounded his anti-nuke defenses. He was moving to build a new one when I launched nukes from a hidden ballistic missile submarine off his coast, which devasted most of his power supplies and set off a chain reaction that took the commander with it.
While the frantic pace and in-your-face tactics on smaller maps can be addictive, don't pass up the opportunity for a huge battle once in a while. It's almost like playing a different game.
