... can the game run in 1680x1050 and would I be better off holding to my money and wait for Jutland?
The reason for asking now is the sale Storm Eagle Studios has right now and it have been on my gaming radar since release, but somehow always slipped away.
Hi,
don`t know, my max. resolution is 1960x something, but I think this is the result of the monitor/graphics-card combo.
But you can easily check it out, download the demo and try. The demo is the full game, but there is only one single scenario playable, the rest is unrestricted. If you like the game, you just need to purchase a licence and register the game. This unlocks the rest of the scenarios and the campaign.
Just try it, it`s a very good game.

I just took advantage of the sale. Had a bit of trouble with my first install, so I sent an email to SES tech support and got a response with the solution inside of an hour. Which I thought was pretty impressive for a small company on a holiday weekend.
Now I'll be spending the rest of my long weekend out on the water ;)

I like it, but havn't been playing that much yet, mostly some random generated battles to get a feel of the game.
I'm having a little trouble grasping the way of splitting a fleet up into smaller divisions. Somehow some of them go alone etc. But since I'm a noob, its ok.

In DG, the player's role is primarily that of the overall commander present. This means that you want to keep your ships together so you can control them better. Also, ships were trained to fight in units, so they can get confused when going off on their own, or by a series of group orders issued before the previous order is complete. As such, it's usually best to keep your ships following each other neatly in their divisions.
There are some occasions, however, when it's either necessary, beneficial, or harmless to split your units up. The main ones are:
When a ship in the line gets crippled. Split it out as a new division by itself (it will become an independent command). Be sure to issue any ships behind it in line a command to reform the line on the best lead ship, so they close the gap.
When a ship in the line does something on its own initiative, such as dodging a torp or avoiding a collision. This pulls it far out of line, and the ships in line behind it will usually follow it instead of the leader. When you see this happening, split the dodging ship out as its own division and tell the others to reform on the leader. Once the dodging ship is done dodging, add it back to the division and tell it to reform so it will close the gap, if possible. This will usually put it last in line.
When you outnumber the enemy and the total numbers are small, like you have 3 ships and the enemy has 1. If yours are faster, you can surround the enemy this way.
When you have 2 ships that have vastly different speeds and overall point values, and you want to save them both from a stronger enemy force. You can then exploit the AI, which always chases your stronger ship. Split your force and have the ships go in different directions. The enemy will chase your stronger, faster ship and ignore the slower, weaker ship.
If you want 1 ship to do something special, like scout in a direction or do a torp attack.
Otherwise, sending ships off on their own as a general habit is not a good thing.

When I was a customer, I wasn't at all happy with that one. Now that I'm a company man, I'm not too proud of it, either :paperbag:
BTW, your avatar brings back some memories for me. So I replicated it using stuff from my box of Desert Storm loot. Just a way to lay the ghosts. See attached pic.

It's not just an Iraqi helmet. It is a standard issue Warsaw Pact tank crew helmet, i.e. standard issue Soviet tank crew helmet. All the heroes of the pre-1989 war movies and tv series about glorious T-34s kicking German asses were wearing those :-D My uncle even had one of those at home. Couldn't play with it long as a kid though - it was a winter variant with very thick fur lining, when you put it on, you would start sweating instantly :-D
Guess the Iraqi got these along with their T-55s/62s/72s.

Like Rhetor says, this is a standard WarPac, Soviet-style AFV crewman's helmet. The Iraqis used them in all their AFVs from WarPac nations and the PRC, probably because they plugged into the intercomm system and nothing else would :). Like the one Rhetor's uncle had, this is a winter version with a thick fur (although synthetic in this case) liner. That was great during Desert Storm, which was fought in the winter, but kinda sucks today in the Louisiana summer. However, it was the only one that I found that would fit my large head.
The thing up my nose is a standard WarPac AFV periscope, just as shown in your avatar. See the Cyrillic writing on the label? However, it looks smaller here because this is just the inner part, without the external housing in your pic. These things tend to get shot up so are replaceable from inside the vehicle. Just disconnect the defroster wire, undo a clip, and pull the busted periscope down inside. Then reverse the process to stick a new periscope into the hole. All Soviet-designed AFVs have these things, which are interchangeable. Gunners and commanders had special forward-facing periscopes with IR and sighting graticules specific to the gun involved, but all those looking in other directions, plus the driver's, were just like this.
I collected both pieces of gear from the remains of a battalion of 2S1 self-propelled 122mm guns that my unit took out with counterbattery fire. We had to hit them twice because after our 1st strike took out all but 1 gun, the survivors moved a little and then resumed firing at us. So they went down like the guys crewing the famous "Nery Gun" in the IWM, London :salute:. Problem is, nobody knows of this heroism except me and my old compadres, so there were no Iraqi versions of the VC to hand out to them, even posthumously. So I drink to the shades of these valiant Iraqis and hope to drink with them in Valhalla one day.
