Looks interesting.

For some reason, even though I love sci-fi games, I never did get into the original. I played it for a few weeks and then lost interest. I still have the CD around somewhere. I should install it and try it again.

I wonder how well it will do against the Dawn of War series? It looks awful similar. No doubt the fans will buy it, but I wonder if non-fans will pass it up for other fare?

The original Starcraft is very outdated by today's standards. It has been far surpassed in every possible way by more contempory RTS titles, and I personally wouldn't have any interest in revisiting the original.

Starcraft's basic gameplay more or less became the template for all RTS games that followed. From what I could see on those trailers, I would venture to say Starcraft II will stand up very well to Command & Conquer 3. That said, Supreme Commander has raised the bar by several notches, and I think it is fair to say that Starcraft II better have some innovation going on or Blizzard is going to hear about it from the game reviewers. But I wouldn't worrry too much about that since Blizzard has a strong track record in the innovation department.

Though I'd say SC and CnC3 are two totally different approaches to an RTS game. And I'd say S2 will stand up pretty good to CnC, wich is the less build up/more direct game.
