Now up to turn 175 in 1.7 game as allies.
Allied position on Suez canal still under threat. Axis have made advances over the canal. UK and US units well dug in. Axis advance have to be followed by rests of 5 turns or more. Axis naval and artillery corps seem key to making progress. UK has most bomber force in Egypt. Just moved the remainder of Home fleet into Suez canal. Two UK armoured divisions have reconstituted from the losses at Gibraltar. No sign of UK corps reconstituting. Both armoured units shifted to Egypt via horn africa. Holding onto southern end of Suez canal for dear life. Axis control northern end. Also transferred only remaining Swordfish squadron to Egypt. others have evaporated and never returned. Think lack of Swordfish replacements is limiting factor here. Now bombarding Italian fleet with RAF and home fleet. Combat results show Italian fleets suffering but those reports are always very optimistic.
Very happy the axis shock bonus has gone.
Now have a continous front from basra to Black sea in Turkey. Front follows super river through Iraq on eastern edge of desert. A lot of axis forces deployed defending this line. Russians have plenty forces deployed here forcing axis to match. not much happening now. Russians achieved success in taking baghdad about 15 turns ago. Several german armoured corps were trapped and annialated. A Rumanian corps was trapped and destroyed in Basra. While front was rather porous (area behind super river was lightly defended) my favourite tactic was to use armour and mechanised forces to move around flanks rather than bludgeon way through frontally. To date the Russian troops have little sucess attacking fortified position frontally. this is how Baghdad was taken and the panzer korps trapped. Their flank security was poor to non existant. The engineers allowed the Russian armour to cross the super river and then move onto Baghdad. Once Baghdad taken then all over for the trapped forces. Russia has plenty of spare infantry units to follow behind the armour and seal the area.
So I am happy with strategy to date. The UK could not remain in Egypt if full axis force allowed to attack. So Russians have been key in causing trouble from Iraq and Iran to tie down large part of axis force. Axis could not comprimise with quailty of force because of my flanking moves and attacking weak spots. Egypt still in UK hands so strategy been success to date. The continous front I am happy with in Iraq and Iran Turkey. Lot of axis forces tied down.
Now moved attention to Finland. Have taken Potsamo. Axis defended and evacuated. Now forces moving down from Potsamo. Couple of german corps have had to move to support Finnish forces. Supply not good for russians so am happy just to pin down more axis forces.
Just to make axis position more uncomfortable. The Russian artillery corps have arrived. I railed them to Lenningrad. Along with some mechanised and infantry units. Now have the means to take on fortified positions. Three Finnish corps were dug in. Two on front and 1 on tactical reserve. After 2 turns they have been routed and path to helsinki is open and clear. Other Russian units are attacking along road to north of the lakes. finnish troops well and truely outnumbered. Axis have real problems in Finland and I am hoping to KO Finland in couple of turns.
Then it will be Sweden and then norway. I think I will maintain presence on other fronts. If axis redeploy forces then I will follow up. Seem to on roll in Finland. Axis don't seem to have forces to intervene to save Finland.
Winter coming soon and also big influx of US forces is due within 15 turns.
