Just wondering if anyone else is following this one which is about to be released in Europe on 25-5-07. While there are some obvious non-historical aspects to the gameplay the naval engagements do look spectacular and there is clearly a lot of interest in making these as realistic as possible with some excellent visual and stats based damage modelling, ability to upgrade armament, carrier based warfare, manual control of ships and guns or AI etc. It looks like the WWII naval RTS we all hoped Battlestations Midway could have been.

Best way to make your mind up on this one is to go to the forums and in particular the sticky thread on Alies Beta Screens and Game info. The beta testers are being very generous indeed with the amount of info. they are giving out and overall there is a huge amount of interaction with the developers via the beta testers which is extremely rare these days.

Anyway, make your own minds up at this link www.pacificstorm.net :: View Forum - Pacific Storm Allies (http://www.pacificstorm.net/forum/viewforum.php?f=29&sid=cba338b5814e43d686cbfff677662674) The demo should be out too in the next week or so.

Yes, I've been keeping on eye on it. Also looked at Pacific Storm, but after reading many horror stories about the AI, I decided to wait for Allies.

Pacific Storm in its original form never made it to the UK so PS Allies will be the first time most of us have tried it out over here. The naval battles in the videos and screens look excellent although I am slightly concerned about the somewhat arcadey/non-historical elements such as post WWII jets being introduced late in the war plus non-historical missiles/rockets etc. This may ultimately detract from what could be a really good WWII naval combat game. I will wait till I have tried the demo.

I myself have never heard of it. This is the first. I will go and take a look.
But I am going to pour my support behind this game as I like to do that and help make it a hit. That way Norm will have a way to make more and bigger addons and that to me will help a great game become better and carry on and not be a flash in the pan like most are.

Intriguing, but by the looks of it, I'd have to go out and buy a new computer to get the thing to run!! No way I'm getting those screen shots using current equipment.

I know this thread if off-topic, but the NWS online store now has Pacific Storm Allies for sale. They emailed me that they actually will have copies of the game in stock within a day or two. Me thinks I might order it.

No demo in sight so I have taken a risk on this one and ordered it primarily for the naval warfare element and the campaign. Its not historical, but the naval side of it intrigues me enough to want to investigate further. It will arrive tomorrow so I will report back.

I've actually having this game for 3 months.
Well, it is really better than original title in terms of AI and stability. Unfortunatelly, there are still many things to fix, some of which are so stupid that this was a big surprise for me that devs didn't notice them.
Still problems with hit-location logics system, still need to balance it.
Still need to fix AA ai and/or guns.

Despite all of these, the game is intresting and give many opportunities for diversified gameplay.

Actually I just ordered Allies from the NWS store without waiting to try out the demo.

Hope I don't regret my decision.:bite:

That could have been a rash move Wallysworld. I just got mine this morning and after working through the initial training missions and then trying some of the tactical missions (Hood v Bismark) this game is looking like a bugfest. There are no effects for gunfire, shell splashes or damage showing up so far and I get a CTD if I try starting any of the tactical missions. These bugs have already been repeatable on other peoples systems so its not just me. This is really obvious stuff that the testers should have picked up. I will continue with the training missions, but my confidence in the quality of this game has taken a serious knock.

The moderators on the main Pacific Allies forum are quite defensive and have already started a damage limitation exercise by locking threads on the bugs or deleting them wholesale. They have set up a bug tracking thread in the support forum so hopefully people will post there if they have problems.

@ mbv, I've said that this game is full of bugs couple of posts ago.
