Lt. Gen. Toth,

We need to decide who will fight this battle and what our objective should be. I am available to play, but would happily defer to anyone else who wanted to play.

As for strategy, my thought would be that we try to unite our two forces in the battle, inflict damage on the Rebel armored units, minimize our own casualties and be prepared to give up ground, including the city if necessary to hold down casualties.

You have my support on your plan!

I really would like to play but unfortunately I have to write three (!) exams in the next week and so I guess I will be to buisy to do a good job.

Whoever takes the job: Good Luck!

Col. Boomer,

I would like you to take this action. You coined the tactics for it, you can execute it now. In zone N there will be a battle between 1-2 rebel and govt companies, with no support, I believe. You might head down there and kill the remaining (after the battle with the govt, they are similar in size, they should pretty much exhaust each other) rebels. This would show them that we are a serious player.

My advice is that kill as many panzers (oops, I meant armor) as you can, give them a bloody nose, then cover your retreat with the Warriors. Do not lose them, they are very valuable. Maybe you can wait until evening, then they have night vision hence rule the battlefield.

But the tactics is up to you, I do not want to interfere, I trust your abilities.

Good luck,
Lt.Gen. Tóth

Lt. Gen. Toth,

At your request I will take the battle and so indicate to DD. Wish me luck since I expect to be very outnumbered. I agree that the Warriors need to be preserved, along with the UN M-60 and the Fiat's. I will consider it a success if I can withdraw the mechanized units, but will of course try for more.

With your agreement I intend to send a secret communication to the Rebel commander who looks like it will be Dita. I will say that if he does not fire on my units, I intend to withdraw leaving him in control of the town. However if he fires on me, I will retailiate and we intend to ally with the government to eliminate the Rebels. Therefore the choice is his...he can fire and his team will maybe win the battle, but surely lose the war, with the government winning, or he can let me withdraw and live to maybe beat the government.

Of course if he lets me withdraw, I intend to double cross him if I can by destroying some of his units late in the battle since the Rebels have betrayed us. I will of course expect him to do the same. However, I will not double cross him if Lt. Gen. Toth believes that this is not in keeping with UN policies.

You are allowed to punish them, of course. :D They were the first breaking agreement.

Otherwise I agree with your plan, we may use that company in N in the next turn with more favourable conditions.

Gentlemen:

I regret to inform you that reports have reached me that one squad from C Platoon, 2nd Peacekeeper Company has taken fire from Rebel forces. The firing occured at approximately 0640 local time (Turn 2). The Rebels opened fire on the squad which was acting as an advanced recon patrol, west of the city. The squad returned fire, but was forced to retreat after taking casualties as a result of fire from approximately one Rebel platoon.

Approximately 3 minutes later, elements of D Platoon reported taking incoming fire from small mortars, both HE and smoke. D Platoon is deployed to the southwest of the Mayor's office, which is in the middle of the town. No casualties were reported, presumably the Rebels will now advance on the town from the southwest as well as the west. The incoming mortar fire would indicate the presence of at least 3 Rebel Companies.

On a more positive note, the UK forces have joined 2nd Peacekeeper Company's mobile elements (M-60, 2 Fiats plus E Platoon) and are now southeast of the town, moving through the forest to the road leading south toward zone N. The should reach it in a concentrated force in 3-4 turns, possibily gaining the opportunity to hit Rebel units advancing from the southwest in the flank.

I will report more information as it becomes available. Lt. Gen. Toth, you may want to post something on the diplomatic channel, noting that it was the Rebel's that initiated combat by opening fire, and letting them know that we will be hunting them down and putting their leaders on trail at the International Criminal Court.
