Do the Baltic States EVER join the Allies? Do they contribute the same amount of small corps?

The Baltic States never join the Allies. They begin as Axis units and are withdrawn upon the fall of France, or the loss of Kovno.

Poor old Baltic States were caught between the devil and the deep blue sea. Given that Germany and the USSR were all but allied at the start of WWII they didn't have many options. Can't have them turning Allied as they (very sensibly) made no move whatsoever to help the Poles.

If the USSR leaves then alone they'll simply disappear once France falls, or they'll join the Germans for the hypothetical Eastern Crusade version.

Is there really any reason the Soviet would want to leave them alone? The -5 to the USEV is no big thing... And the buffer space helps eat up a turn or two of Barbarossa, which can be priceless.

I've often wondered about the utility of having the German start with a +10 or 15 on the USEV (and scaling back the other USEV events to compensate, or some such thing) so that the Russian can't get away with any garbage. I've never done it on purpose, but I do recall back when the USEV was still showing the plusses in the news string that I once had a game where the Axis did not take the prewar builds, etc, and had a rather quiet opening. As the Allies, I attacked Finland, took the Baltic States, and pretty much every other sensible yet nasty thing that I could do, and the gist of it is that since the USEV cannot be a negative number, I was getting away with some of this stuff for free...

This was part of the reason I suggested the hidden USEV variable so long ago - I *hate* bean counting...

Iunno.
Since German units cannot enter them until they declare War with USSR, it is still a turn to get through the 3 states but, yknow.
Dont want to deplete or move units till I see what kind of forces I receive.
new to 3.4(d). My entire Armies are at the border of Friggin IRAN..I'll show that friggin hasmidjibabibabababab... or whatever..HACCCCHHHHPTOOOuiE!
32 armies...all air forces and moved my navy using the log rolling method.....
they're toast... battleships on the ground...hmph. Bomb them back to the medieval ages..
Finland campaign is iffy at best sometimes...depends...

I cant remember..the 80's were a blur... the worst decade in some respects. lol

Yeah - the Allies get a couple cavalry units, and a garrison unit or some such... They are also out of supply, iirc. I usually send a handful of NKVD units to convert the hexes, and a few infantry corps to provide the main force, along with a few cavalry units of my own to complete the surrounds. Also - unless you are involved in something massive (early German attack/taking out Finland/Sweden), which is not all that likely, you don't even have to attack them.

I generally isolate them, surround them, and I just sit until such time as I can kill them with an overrun. No need to lose any precious light rifle squads whatsoever!

Really...just lots of mud and schtuff like that. Why do you think the Russian army is always trying to get out and go into other countries... they're just trying to leave peacefully but those countries always defend themselves... iunno why!
