Hi All -
I've been following the 'Panzer Campaign' series for awhile now but still haven't actually purchased any. The Siege of Budapest and Operation Konrad are battles I've been interested in for several years, however, so I'll probably end up getting this one at least. I have a few questions, however, that I hope you can answer.
1. How is airpower handled in the game?
2. I've always been interested in the ad-hoc nature of the the defense of Budapest - are some of the unique units created to reinforce the garrison represented (the Europa, Vannay and Technical University Battalions, for example)?
3. Can you list some the smaller scenarios included in the game?
4. How is supply for the Budapest garrison handled? (Is the airlift represented? If so, do the Russians have a chance to disrupt it with the use of interceptors or AA divisions?).
5. Are the Tiger II battalions given the same operational limits they had in 'real life'? (In other words, is their mechanical unreliability represented?).
Thanks for all of your help!

Hi All -

1. How is airpower handled in the game?

The Air is handled in an Abstract manner where Air Missions are assigned for a list of those available. They can be fired upon and incurr loses, they mi8ght be driven away by interceptors, (controlled by a parameter in the game PDT) and they are limited to how many planes can hit a single hex in a turn (again a parameter.)

I'd encourage you to download the updated set of PzC Rules from the HPS Website to review those for more detailed info.

2. I've always been interested in the ad-hoc nature of the the defense of Budapest - are some of the unique units created to reinforce the garrison represented (the Europa, Vannay and Technical University Battalions, for example)?

Yes - we have a bunch of these in the game OOB - my colleague who has a long standing interest in this battle did the OOB and there are a number of ad-hoc type units of the KISKA Det including units like "Eszakpesti Hungarista" and "Svabhegyi". The Vannay Bn is in there too - so I think it has what you want.

3. Can you list some the smaller scenarios included in the game??

Check out one of the PBEM clubs as they will list the Scns with more info on the length and such.

4. How is supply for the Budapest garrison handled? (Is the airlift represented? If so, do the Russians have a chance to disrupt it with the use of interceptors or AA divisions?).

We used the more abstract Virtually Supply Trucks rules with Supply Variations to cover supply in this game so I guess the answer is no to the detail here. BUt you can check out VST Supply in the USer Docs you download.

5. Are the Tiger II battalions given the same operational limits they had in 'real life'? (In other words, is their mechanical unreliability represented?).

Well this is a two part answer as YES, the game does handle mechanical breakdown and YES you can flag certain units, or components for higher than normal breakdown. We developed this rule for PANTHERS at Kursk, but we didn't use it for the Tigers in mid 1943 and so we did not use it in the OOB for Tigers here.

You can alter the game OOB if you feel this is how it should be, but I don't think the Tigers rated a higher breakdown.

In fact the game also has the ability to flag certain units for ENHANCED vehicle recovery and in fact, at least one Btln - s.Pz.Abt.503 - has been flaged for such a value as my colleagues research indicated this uni had an uncanny ability to keep vehicles in the field.

And s.Pz.Abt.503 is a King Tiger unit.

Yes, I have great expectations for this game. It is on order and when I get
it I will fire up the Full campaign PBEM.....of course.

Hey Guys:

During the POST MASTERING period of the Budapest Game, our testers found a couple things which affected several campaigns.

Unfortunately it is a little too early for HPS to release a formal game patch as there are no outstanding programming issues, but I wanted folks to have the best initial gaming experience, ESPECIALLY in encrypted PBEM games, so I figured it was best to make this available if only informally.

There is a link on my main welcome page:

Sorry for the inconvenience!
