Hi, I´m a new player of TOAW III and there´s a lot I still do not understand.
(Even so I played TOAW I and II some years ago.)

For Europe Aflame I have a question.
When I`m starting the game as AXIS, the RAF is attacking my forces right from the start. I can see british attacks on spanish vessels.

Soviet naval forces attacking finish troops, what is O.K. to me, since that is history, but why does soviet airforce is attacking swedish forces?
I think there ist fighting between brit. and it. forces in Somalia too.

I thought the time from Jul to Sep 39, is for moving troops and things like that.

Did I miss a patch or something? What can I do?

(Please excuse my english)

It depends what type of combat is occurring - aircraft will make random strikes on enemy targets that is completely automated - your opponent is not ordering these strikes, rather the AI is starting random battles with the airforce. If, however, your opponent is directly ordering these strikes, then he is not following the rules for this particular scenario.

When are you seeing these battles, during your opponents replay, or during your own turn?

In regards to the naval strikes by Russia on Finnish troops: this is perfectly allowable, so long as your opponent has declared war on the Finns via the theatre option.

If you can provide a bit more information about the things that are causing you concern, perhaps we'll be able to help you figure out what is going on.

Nope. As soon as you see the theatre option to invade Poland, you can (or any of the other countries on the TO list)

I believe that the Germans have the option of triggering the theatre option for Poland on turn 3, which means they may start hostilities at the beginning of turn 4. The Allies are not allowed any offensive actions at this time.

But regardless of whether or not the Axis actually attacks on turn 4, the Allies may begin certain operations themselves at this time, namely the Russians attacking Finland or Persia. But the western Allies have no options for combat until such time as the Germans begin the war.

Wyatt, we're discussing a S&T chat in the other thread(s) here in the EA Forum; you should have a peek and get involved if you've the time, it should be good! And another voice is always a good thing when discussing this type of stuff.

Yes, but if he's srring Russians attacking Swedes/Finns before he even has the option of atatcking Poland, then his opponent is violating the rules.

Also, have you ever seen an interdiction strike hit ships before? I am almost positive that they are exempt.
Personally, I think it looks like Vitcos should make sure his opponent's name isn't Becker , and then have his opponent re-read the Briefing.

Hmmm, got a little history on the Becker bit? Sounds interesting. :) And you know something? I thought I had seen the navies (Spanish, to be exact) get hit before, but now that you mention the above, I cannot say for 100% certainty.

Ok, I'll jump in the chat soon, but likely not 'til after my lunch break, which begins in half an hour. So, in an hour and a half, I should be available for a goodly period of time.

 In an hour I should be gone for a goodly time. Maybe you can take a transcription of the event and post it here for later consumption.

Well I forgot to tell, that I`m playing against the AI. It doesn´t make sense to me as long as I don´t understand so many other things.

Proper use of air force, use of HQ, and other things.

Ahhh!

The AI cannot play Europe Aflame - it doesn't know how to follow the houserules, like not attacking before the theatre options say to do so, etc. (This is a PBEM only scenario). That is why you are seeing such oddities. Frankly, the game will be too bizarre to actually play against the computer. I suggest you play both sides, or take on a PBEM game against another player here. A green player will give you a game at about the same skill level, while playing a vet will not likely see you raising your flag in the enemies capital, but will see you learning more about the game and how to play it much more quickly than any other method.

Yeah, the AI is improved, but not enough to play EA, I'm afraid.

I'm learning it too. Just play "Hot-Seat" (against yourself). That way I'm learning about the rounds system and strategy/tatics.

Happy toawing! :toast: Btw, i like your nickname.

Hehe, it's related with the current and ongoing GS TOAW tournament, "Birth of the European Army" - a series of modern scens made by our fearless leader, Jean Luc. Quite entertaining.
