A little help for Modern TOE

A question for all you senario designers out there. For a modern(mid 80's) formation, should...let's say the M243 SAW, be modeled as a separate MMG in the TOE for a particular unit or is it's effect sufficently modeled by the Assault Squad AT+?

According to the scenario notes, the light machineguns are modelled into the squads, MMG being 7.62 and above up to 12.7mm which are Heavy MGs
