What is your opinion of the fog-of-war effects in decisive Action? As it stands now, FOW seems to be a bit of an all or nothing affair. Once an enemy unit is spotted on the map, you know what size unit it is and what strength it is currently at. This seems like it could be improved just a bit similar to Point of Attack 2.

Why not have "partial" information on enemy units? This could be done in several ways. How about spotting, where you know there is an enemy unit at a certain location, but you don't know the type or any other information about it.

How are enemy units spotted? Must this be done the old fashioned way, or does DA model aerial recon and things like that? Is there an S2 section to brief enemy information like POA-2 has?

This is a subject I am very confused about, the AI seems to be hitting targets well to the rear of my force with airstrikes, that a UAV has been nowhere near??

Also without me even deploying any air units I can see scraps of the enemy force well behind their lines.

And whats more confusing is the distance at which a unit is spotted, it seems you can see units a long way away in the distance?!

An LOS feature would be nice, since huge mountains can block LOS even on the strategical level of DA. ;)

Some ways you are spotted:

1. You have FA units in the SEAD/Counterfire role, and they do as ordered. This may very well be detected by the enemy.

2. There may be an enemy NAI you can't see, but they see you,...just like you can do to them!

Some ways YOU can spot the enemy deep:

1. You send an airstrike against a unit close, and it is engaged by long-range enemy ADA.

2. The ENEMY has its FA in the counterfire/SEAD role, and they fire, which is picked-up by YOUR counterfire FA units.

As for LOS, there IS a terrain which blocks LOS, but it does NOT prevent combat when 2 unit footprints (NOT weapons ranges) come in contact.

LOL, I'm surprised a great mind hasn't figured this out yet! How do you KNOW the info you get when clicking on an enemy unit is 100% accurate?!;) :)

Why do you think there are 2 settings on the ELINT model?

Do you think we would be using this at the level we are using it if the intel gathered was 100%?

Other than the locations, which are accurate as long as the units are tracked/acquired, all else is supposition. Next time you play, take a look at your SITREPs and bounce those off of what is being reported for an enemy unit. If an enemy unit stays visible to one of your units long enough, it will, indeed, get an accurate reporting of unit strength, as is realistically expected.

There are quite a few subtleties in DA which require a great deal of play to appreciate!:D

Good answer. I had not caught on that DA was doing this. I was looking at the map and believing that once a unit was displayed the information was current. I'll take a closer look at this and see what I discover.

Well that clears my own Fog of War, thanks
