View Full Version : How does Supreme Commander stack up to Total Annihilation?

My initial impressions after playing the demo version is that weapons have much longer ranges, which is very important since the maps are so large. I found my forces frequently being attacked by enemy units that were far enough away that I could not see them. Building plenty of radar, anti-aircraft, and static ground defenses seems like a must.

The graphics are far superior to Total Annihilation, although there are some stylistic similarities among many of the units and buildings.

The commander does not seem to be the fearsome killing machine he was in TA, but that's an early assessment just based on a couple of demo games.

The larger and more technically advanced unit types take a long time to build compared to any other RTS game I can think of. 20-40 minutes for some of them. They take an absolutely massive amount of resources and power to build, but they can wreck havoc once complete. One of those giant spiders destroyed my entire base single-handed! Even my commander unit was powerless in the face of such an onslaught.
