View Full Version : IMMEDIATE Advice PLEASE ... Don Front Units

I know Pelle is on vacation so I'm going to ask the opinion of the Soviet team (for now at least!)

Here's what Pelle said about the Don Front units being freed for operations anywhere.

Yes this is a unit of AG DON entering the boundary "*"....and your are free to use DON front outside the boundary...

In my game, a German unit of the AG Don has entered a **** hex BUT did so because of a retreat before combat. (see the pics).

My first thought was ... a retreat shouldn't count ... that would be "gamey". But then I thought ... well, hell, it's very "gamey" to have the Axis units sitting right beside the *** line when in reality they'd push forward.

So ... I'm leaning towards saying that Pelle's words must be taken at face value or we will have too many subjective situations that will be hard to decide.

Check out the pics and please give me your opinion!

I originally posted this message on the secure Soviet forum. After a couple of thoughtful replies from my teammates, I felt the issue should be brought to the entire group for consideration. Of course, the big insect gets the final word as the tourney GOD!

To my teammates who posted, I didn't copy your post since you replied on the secure forum. Please repost here if you want to do so.

I replied that as soon as a German unit enter the * hexe the Don front units must be consider free, whatever the cause of the entry is.

That's my point of view

IMO it doesn't matter how the unit got there, it's there. It's better to stick to the rule in a literal sense, otherwise you get all kinds of interesting interpretations and confusion.

Yet I second Jean-Luc's and MikeJ's opinions. Once an Axis unit enters a "*" marked area, Don units are freed from any geographical restrictions - full stop.

i totally agree with this
although the best way would be to speak with your opponent, and go for an agreement

although the best way would be to speak with your opponent, and go for an agreementYes, I have sent an email to Vindex asking his opinion. However, I think that since this is a tournament, and a point that seems to remain confusing to the players, that wider clarification was important.

I personally agree that no matter how the German unit gets on the *** hex, that the Soviet Don Front units are released. If I were the German player, I'd be upset to see my plans frustrated but also realize that once I get close to the *** hexes, I run the risk of something like that happening.

If I were the Soviet player, I'd either be thankful for a lucky break or upset that I wasted a TO!

yes that's true
personnaly, i don't see why pelle put such a rule
if the soviets put some units out of there, this is easier for 6 army to escape the pocket, at least this is what i think, but if pelle put such a rule there must be a reason it is just i don't know why he did this, may be i'll go to post on the tdg forum
