GT has a list of the best video game weapons of all time. Take a look and see if you agree.

The gravity gun is clearly one of the best guns in any game ever, multiplayer on HL2 was just crazy, hectic fun. Personally, however - my favourite weaponry in any game comes from little known Doom-era FPS 'Rise of the Triad' - some of the weaponry in this game was pure craziness like the Drunk Missile that fired 3 missiles in random directions, or the Split Missile which would fire 2 missiles in a straight line until you release the mouse button, at which point they would split effectively allowing you to shoot round corners, then there was the Hand of God which allowed you to become temporarily godlike and vapourize enemies with a gesture of your hand, Dog mode where you turned into a canine and could bite peoples knackers and blow up every enemy on the screen with a Sonic Bark and The Excalibat, legendary Arthurian baseball bat that could explode and launch enemies into the air when swung. My favourite weapon in Rise of the Triad though is the Flame Wall - RotT was the first game I ever played on-line waaay back in 1995, and the Flame Wall just seemed like such a cool weapon, it's mortar like munition, when coming in contact with a surface, would explode into a wall of flame that would spread forwards until it encountered another wall - everyone would rush to get the Flame Wall as you could literally take out every other player in the server with a few well placed shots.
Other honourable mentions go to the BFG900 from Doom, the Wraithverge from Hexen, the Cereberal Bore from Turok, the Hell Staff from Heretic, the SIG from Counter-Strike, the laptop gun from Perfect Dark, the Plasma rifle/Shotgun combo from Halo 1, the Flack Cannon from Unreal Tournament and the Rail Gun from Quake.
i love the gravity gun, the combine assualt (with the deadly secondary fire which vapourises all in its way) from HL2.
Flak cannon from UT2k7 (i kept getting the flak monkey phrase XD)
The ratchet and clank weapons were awesome too.

I haven't played many games with strange weaponary, however the remote mines in the TimeSplitters games are great fun. In a multiplayer match with friendly fire turned off you could cover your teammate with remote mines then detonate them once they had ran into a crowd of enemies! :D
Similarly use of C4/TNT in the MGS games can also be great fun. You can sneak up behind an enemy soldier on patrol, plant one on his back then wait for him to walk by other soldiers. Then detonate! :clown:
Oh common, the best video game weapon is easily the knife.
I mean it never runs out of ammo, and you KNOW you love getting in close and personal and using the knife. Every respectable hit man also knows the knife is the weapon of the master assassin.
Any doofus schmuck can off something with a BFG.
In the 1st unreal tornament, the redeemer is the most powerful weapon ever in any game I have played :) I perfer the katana, although, I have never played a mutliplayer game with one in it.

well, not being much of a half-life fan myself, i wasnt to keen on the gravity gun being number one. but i was happy to see the BFG and chainsaw on that list. personally, i think the shotgun should be on there too!

I think innovation should be a requirement for a weapon to be named "the best." In its own way, Doom's chainsaw was innovative because it was just so over-the-top.
I would like to see a game with a really good flame thrower.

More than the ice gun in Metroid, I'd vote for the bombs. While bombs themselves aren't innovative, their use in combination with ball-mode was quite fantastic when I first played it all those years ago. Most players rarely used them as weapons I suppose.

So......
The BFG is the best way to clear out any problem spots(as long as you don't get killed before using it) for its' ability to vaporize any baddies that stir a trouble for ya. Plus, it kicked arse in Doom 2. To bad it was used once in the movie:upset: .
I think innovation s

Resistance has a really good flame thrower hehe. You can either just flame the person and set them on fire or you can use the special attack which is sort of like napalm in which it shoots out heavy flame that sticks to wherever it lands including doorways and hallways so when they walk over it they get set on fire.
I haven't seen the flame thrower in Resistance, but the best looking one i've seen so far has to be the one from the new Turok game;

Looks awesome imho, hopefully this'll iteration of Turok will be able to rejuvinate the series - it kinda fell of the radar after Turok 2.
If thats how it looks when you use it...then it looks better then the one in Resistance. The one in Resistance is called the L11-2 Dragon and the flame is blue. The cooler part about it is its physics are kinda realistic.
You can't run with it brushing against walls and stuff or you will find yourself on fire.
When you shoot off the napalm like substance..thats awesome though.
