Does anyone know if Mortar/Arty fire on a mine field has the same effect as Satchel Charges used by the Engineers to clear them?
Does anyone know if Mortar/Arty fire on a mine field has the same effect as Satchel Charges used by the Engineers to clear them?I think I read that a 150 explosion would clear some mines, but I'd have to go through the manual a second time in a few days to verify that.... Nah, I'll just put that out there and let someone else do it. :D

Dan,
In a recent battle I have used 81mm mortars on a Red infantry squad that had blundered into an AP minefield. After two turns of shelling the minefield marker was gone. Probably from a combination of the mortars and infantry, but the minefield was gone none the less.

Were the Russian infantry engineers? Because I don't think they have an effect on anti-tank mines at all otherwise.
Good Hunting.

IIRC artillery in CM disables mines. At least the over-ground mines.
Not quite realistic with 81mm, IMHO, to take out ALL mines in a field.

Guys,
Artillery and mortars do not take out mines.
Pg. 64 of the CMBB manual states that minefields can be reduced or eliminated by shell fire.

Mad Russian,
No they were not engineers, I should have mentioned I was playing ROCQ's campaign with + 100% for the AI. So it was a combination of a horde  through a minefield and 81mm on the horde that used up the AP minefield.

Well the reason I asked is that if that minefield was an AT minefield the horde would have no affect of any kind on it. Infantry could only deplete an Anti-personnel minefield. An AT minefield ONLY attacks vehicles.

Tanker is right in his statement re pg 64. It doesn't specify personnel mines only. It doesn't show reduction, but you can count the craters to get an idea.

Here's the proof:laugh:
That doesn't mean it's working :)
I think it does, though.

By all means. I may have a different edition of the manual.;) But I'm quite sure I read it correctly.
