Hi All,

I am really enjoying the game. Mind you, that is playing the Demo, while awaiting the full game to arrive. The new interface is a real improvement. TFW is already in my collection, and now, because of the UI changes, others are on my eventual purchase list with "Star and Crescent" at the top.

Here are some odd things I have noticed in the Demo. My set up is an AMD 64 3500 with 1G ram running with Win 2000 pro. They are as follows.

Alt-tab does not take me to desktop.

If a mission order is given without any movement path the game crashes to desktop. I thought there might be a pop-up saying a movement path is required for this order. I have tested this and it happens every time. If you have a movement path chosen there is no problem.

Sometimes movement paths seem to appear randomly. This happens only occasionally and I have been careful to be sure I am not doing it accidently.

Once, and only once, the game crashed to black screen. I have no idea why.

I don't care for the way the time compression works at higher values. At lower values you can see the speed increase. At higher levels the processing takes a while and is resolved in large "bites". So your helos were there and now they are there. There is not a smooth movement resolution as at the lower values.

Last and least. On Prosim's home page in the first line there is a typo. "Explorers" when I am sure you meant "Explores". And please don't read my post too closely, as it probably has typos too......

When I receive the full game I will post again if I find odd things.

Judging by the demo, all of you who have had a part in the development and design of AATF must be very, very happy with the result. Congratulations, a great game!!

Regards John

John,
I had most of these problems with the demo, and a few you didn't cite. But I haven't had any problems with the release version - all of these issues look resolved. Only issue I'm currently having with the release is with the Powertoolkit and a nasty crash every time I try to convert a XDM to a AATF map (this is not something the 'average joe' will try (I like map making) so I don't think its a big issue for vast majority of folks).

As far as the performance of the game at high time compression - I *think* some of the issue might be your computer's power. Really strong computers can turn and burn the 8x time compression easier.

Hi James,

Thanks for your reply. Good to hear that these odd behaviours all disappeared with the release version. (can't wait!!)

In terms of time compression I don't think it is my comp. I run lots of games and some very demanding applications without any any video processing problems. For instance Conquest of the Ageans accelerated time at the top end is quite frantic and my rig handles it with no problem at all. Even the large scenarios.

In any case I do not think I will use more than factor 4 compression when playing. I might loose track of the battle.

regards John

Z,

I think you might have the BETA version of the DEMO.

Where did you download it from?

Hi Pat,

I downloaded the original Beta demo and then uninstalled it and installed the "Proper Demo" when it was available. I believe that I downloaded it from the Prosim site.

Hmm. I will check it out after I get settled in in-country.
