View Full Version : Gun Hit On A Mg?
In the game against Iron Mike uSMC I have scored a gun hit on a machinegun? I was shooting at him with a Bazooka because there were no more tanks to kill  :hurray: :broccoli:  :redapple: ..... so I said to myself "ah what the hay"....and bang a gun hit on an MG...has this happeened to anyone before?:smoke:

Never heard of that before....was the MG disabled after the gun hit?
"Gun hit" happens to every vehicle's main gun, even when the main gun is a MG.
One annoying aspect of this is that if the gun has a gun and a coax MG, then gun damage always takes out both. If there is a coax MG it continues "working" but of course coax MGs don't do much in CM anyway.
Ah, the good old gun hit! I wonder what hat the designers pulled that one out of?

Gun hits on tanks, while rare or difficult shots, actually happened more than one would think during the war. At close range through 6x - 10x sights it would be possible to try and place a round close enough to damage the gun if not put a hole in it directly.
the gun I assume was distroyed ...I did note the a squad left the top floor and went to the bottom right away. Now if Iron Mike would fill us in then I would Know for sure....I will not be able to tell now, seeing I have just toasted the building with a flamethrower.  :smoke:
I never heard of a MG gun hit. MG immobilized yes, but not a gun hit. That makes sense though. Perhaps it's just the same as a knock out but the term "gun hit" is displayed instead, although mortars and guns can can be "knocked out" so I don't know why it isn't just called a KO.
After all, if you hit a MG with a zook it's probably going to have a little mechanical trouble. :)
I brought up the reference to gun hits in general as a rip on the frequency of gun hits in the game. Too high IMO.

This summer I read an account from a Tiger commander who served on all fronts during WW2. He was being interviewed by a CM player. The CM player asked the vet how often main guns were hit and disabled. The ex-Tiger commander said he never heard of a main gun being disabled in battle!
I know this is anecdotal and does not prove the point but.......I was shocked that the vet never heard of main guns getting disabled!

The MG was KIA before they got out of the building. I'll have to look at the replay, and see what happened.

That would account for FOW as it might be difficult to determine if the MG was KO'd at that range, whereas with a tank or gun it would be a little easier to see the damage. Still, you can see KO'd mtrs at a pretty good distance...:hmmm:

To be more explicit, he knocked out one of the two men in the LMG crew. He then torched the building, with the remaining crewman exercising the better part of valor. Before the remaining crewman got out, he was KIA by other infantry fire.

The problem is that CM doesn't have the gun breaking or the vision blocks being shot out by ATR's either. I always just figure that SOMETHING happened so I couldn't fire the main gun any more. It all lays in CM's damage message system. Like bogging is only being stuck in the mud. Never the engine caught fire, the tranmission broke down, the track came off...only bogged and then IMMOBILIZED!
Same difference to me.
Good Hunting.

I agree with MR.
BTW, I have quite a collection of WWII armor books and there are more than a few pictures in them of knocked out tanks with hits on the guns. I dont know why but most of the ones that i have seen were on Panthers. One was on a Jagdtiger and another on an Elephant. I guess its because the guns are so big that the odds of hitting them were also bigger. Although i have never seen a pic of a gun hit on a Sherman or a T-34, im sure it happened. In fact, now that i think of it, all gun hit pics i have ever seen were on German Tanks. :hmmm:
