I found this extremely interesting..

This following quote studies confirmatory bias as it relates to U.S. government politics. Now, rather than a U.S. presidental election between Bush and Kerry, substitute the console war between the Xbox 360 and the PS3. Sound familiar?

During the run-up to the 2004 presidential election, while undergoing an fMRI bran scan, 30 men–half self-described as “strong” Republicans and half as “strong” Democrats–were tasked with assessing statements by both George W. Bush and John Kerry in which the candidates clearly contradicted themselves. Not surprisingly, in their assessments Republican subjects were as critical of Kerry as Democratic subjects were of Bush, yet both let their own candidate off the hook.

The neuroimaging results, however, revealed that the part of the brain most associated with reasoning–the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex–was quiescent. Most active were the orbital frontal cortex, which is involved in the processing of emotions; the anterior cingulate, which is associated with conflict resolution; the posterior cingulate, which is concerned with making judgments about moral accountability; and–once subjects had arrived at a conclusion that made them emotionally comfortable–the ventral striatum, which is related to reward and pleasure.

Many people claim that they like one console and dislike another for completely rational reasons: price, games, features, reviews, bugs, etc.

However, most people tend to form a mostly emotional preference where they want one console platform to win and want the other to lose, and simply use data and facts and logical sounding reasons to rationalize their preference.

I'm inclined to agree more or less on the original point of your thread actually.

I have no rational basis to hate the PS3 or the PSP.
I just don't like Sony mostly. Don't like the way they do business.

And I really don't care if the Nintendo Wii succeeds or not. As I have no intention of ever buying one, so my supporting it is mainly pointless.

I picked the DS ONLY because they have slated to make the game Panzer Tactics. I suppose if Sony gave a **** about us real wargamers, and made some REAL wargames for their hand held, I might likely want it. Be nice to play Panzer General and Allied General on it (both old PS1 titles).

I like how the DS can play past console games as well as games made currently as DS titles. But considering how a lot of those games won't really interest me, the number of titles I can call reasons to get a DS are fairly finite.

I don't currently have ANY opinion on the 360, as I have zero contact with it or interest in its future.

Well in that case you may have some reason to be interested in the PSP somewhat after all. In the latest PSP firmware updates (3.00+) a PS1 emulator has been included. Whilst at the moment the library of PS1 games to buy is rather low and you need a PS3 to buy them, in the future you should be able to download PS1 games directly to your PSP and the library should be greatly expanded, perhaps even to included those two war games you listed? ;)

In essence, you're saying most people are just fan boys. Granted, there is a degree of truth to this notion, but perhaps no more so than with cars, music, or movies.

Well it always comes down to a person has to need something to want it.

My friend bought a PSP ONLY as a colour pdf reader :)
Just wants it to read pdf of rolegaming books. I don't think he has any intention of buying any PSP games or of using it in any fashion for games.

Myself, if I see that it does an alright job on that pdf function, I might be interested to. I have a interest in game stuff like him as well as reading my ASL manual. If they make Panzer and Allied General available, I can consider that a little more icing :)

As for the PS3 needed deal, not a problem, I have friends with a PS3 hehe.
