Rangers-

When you are air assaulting in the Ia Drang, make sure you have a good landing plan for XRAY and TANGO (especially TANGO). Those LZ's have limited 'OPEN' terrain in which your slicks can dismount troopers into, and if you stack up your troopers, the LZ becomes a real clusterf*ck  . This means you can't send an entire company in at once, they have to land as platoons.

See pages 36-38 of the manual for a good review on how to mount and dismount (and read it BEFORE trying to air assault, like I did )

There are lots of Victor Charlie out there as well, so keep locked and loaded :bite:

Can't wait to try AATF out - Thanks for the HU.

Having played the Ia Drang air assault scenario several more times, I have come to conclusion that Pat's NCO's and Warrant Officers can organize a landing plan much better than I. Give each Huey plt a "INSERT DISMOUNT" order, assign a LZ (and a route optional) and tell them which infantry plt to move and you are all done. The INSERT DISMOUNT mission is very effective and fast. It gets the grunts in cleaner with less exposure to enemy fire. So be sure to use it when air assaulting!

If you plan a path for the Huey's first, and then check the "use current path" button in the order options, you can even guide the path the helos use to the dismount point :)

This is an excellent option / feature in AATF -
