Everyone has them, admit it. What games have you started playing and never bothered to finish? Give reasons and say what platform the game is on. ;)

Pursuit Force [PSP]: Its a great game and all but its so damn hard its untrue. I might pick this up and start playing again soon though if I am feeling sadistic.

Driv3r [PS2]: I got stuck on one level in Istanbul, attempted it a few times and then just couldn't be asked anymore. :meh:

Enthusia [PS2]: I picked this up and played it once then haven't bothered since. I don't know why because it wasn't that bad.

Red Faction [PS2]: I bought this for £2 second hand and played for a while, got stuck then didn't bother.

Half Life [PS2]: Again, I bought this for £2 second hand and played for a while and got stuck. Something about climbing a ladder inside a lift shaft but I didn't have a clue what to do next. I bet it was obvious as well. :hehe:

Conflict: Desert Storm [PS2]: By now you will have probably guessed that I have little to no patience when it comes to playing games considering how readily I gave up on many af the games above. Conflict: Desert Storm is no exception. I was happily churning through the levels until I got to one concerning disarming SCUD missiles or something. Needless to say my men were full of lead every time I attempted it... :o

Star Wars Rouge Squadron III: Rebel Strike [Gamecube]: I got stuck on numerous levels (as the game lets you decide which levels you play out of a few choices), lets just say they were very hard. And the worst thing about it was that these levels were all near the start of the game, maybe i'm just no good at playing games eh? :(

Sonic Adventure 2: Battle [Gamecube]: Don't even go there. :bite: There are levels on this game that are quite frankly impossible.

I'm sure there are plenty more I have missed, in fact if I listed all of the games I have given up on this post would be ridiculously long...

I usually try and finish most games. Off the top of my head though, Gran Turismo games, i know i could complete them if i kept trying but sometimes it gets a little bit boring doing the same track over and over.

Dude, anyone who says they have completed a Gran Turismo game is a damn liar! Its practically impossible to do everything in a Gran Tursimo game, I mean to do that you would have to have completed every single event and be in possession of every single car, each with every upgrade possible. It is something that mankind was never meant to accomplish. Who knows, if you completed it perhaps it would tell you the meaning of life?

(the answer would probably be "why have you wasted your life playing a Gran Turismo title until you have completed it the full 100%?" :rofl2: )

I think I will complete a game if I like it enough, for example MGS games and GTA games. I rarely however 100% complete a game but I have 100% completed TimeSplitters 2, GTA: Liberty City Stories, Crash Bandicoot 2 and Crash Bandicoot 3. ;)

I find 100% a game a bit boring. Completing the storyline is enough for me, maybe a little more on some.

never bothered to complete many games, Co-op and multiplayer are the only things that excite me

Off top of my head Timesplitters Future Perfect, simply wasnt as good as Timesplitters 2 and Abes Odyssey, totally sh*t bought for 50p wasnt even worth that

Well I do like games to have lots of replay value. Sometimes I will go for 100%, just so that I know I got everything out of the game possible. :)

Oh and these can be added to the list:

Super Mario 64 [N64]: This game is pretty damn good but it is pretty damn hard to match. I think I need 40 stars to fight Bowser for the 3rd time but only have about 35 or something like that. I think I shall have to find an extensive guide on the internet to work from in order to grab a few more stars.

Nice thread, Adam. Here's a few of mine:

Everybody's Golf [PSP] I'm close to the end, unlocked almost all the different costumes, but stopped for some strange reason.

Splinter Cell [Xbox] for the simple reason that it's too hard for me. The furthest i ever got was the third(?) mission with the oil rig.

Dark Cloud [PS2] I completed it in the sense that i beat the final boss. But that only went and unlocked a 100-level dungeon. :OHNO:

And Zelda: The Wind Waker [GC], not because i couldn't be bothered but because i got stuck on the final part of the game, then it got stolen. :upset:

and Abes Odyssey, totally sh*t bought for 50p wasnt even worth that

Know the difference between when a game is rubbish and when you're no good at it. In this case it's you. There is absolutely nothing wrong with any of the games of the Oddworld series: Abe's Oddysee is just awesome for starting off the series.

I don't complete many Final Fantasy games - the exception being FF:VI, FF:VII and FF:Tactics - I usually get waaaay too bored of them before the end to even consider completing them.

Most games I don't complete it's because i've got bored with them, or they just don't appeal to me - theres very few games I regret not completing; Shenmue II however, would be one of them - the first was such a great game, one of my all time favourites, but by the time the second one was out my Dreamcast was dead and buried and then when I got Shenmue II on the xbox a few years later I couldn't be bothered to play it very much.

Is wind waker hard? people say its easy but it looks really weird to other Zelda games

Windwaker isn't exactly hard, it's just kinda boring - especially before you gain the ability to quick travel across the ocean using typhoons.

I never completed the original far cry for the pc, i just couldn't be bothered looking at this jungle landscape all the time and for some reason my monitor back then was all fuzzy and messed up, and the graphics were annoying and giving me headaches.

Stuntman for the ps2, i don't know why, i really enjoyed it but never picked it up again.

And believe it or not, as big a mgs fan as i am, i never completed the first one for the ps1. I got stuck when it asked for a code from the back of a cd case? then a long time after, i realised it meant the game case, but i lost the game and disc completely.

Fable: The Lost Chapters - couldnt be bothered, ti got really boring

Zelda: Wind Waker - thought it was awful when i got to the last temple

Tomb Raider III - ****ing hard.

Metroid Prime - Lost my memory card :( and i was really far in so i cba to restart.

Its ok Johno, I didn't know what it meant by "on the back of the case" on my first few playthroughs either. :o How did I get past that part I hear you say? The chump's way, I went through every codec frequency until I found the right one! :hehe:

Just be sure to nab a copy of MGS1 second hand from somewhere now you know what to do or buy it for PSP when it becomes available for the PS1 emulator (when it is released over here  ). Of course if you buy it for PSP you won't have a case to find the code on! I bet it's easy to find online though. ;)

Anyway back to games I have never completed:

Goldeneye 007 [N64]: I really loved this game when I got my N64 about 2 or so years ago as it reminded me so much of TimeSplitters 2 in many ways (and TS2 is one of my all time favourite games), probably due to the fact that TimeSplitters 2 was developed by ex-Rare employees (Free Radical). However after ploughing through a few of the story missions I got stuck on a level in an underground bunker (where you begin imprisoned with only a magnetic watch). I somehow managed to do that level even though it was practically impossible to sneak around and dispatch guards silently with throwing knives. The next level was the statue park level and I got completely lost, how the hell was you supposed to know where you were going?

Donkey Kong 64 [N64]: I never even managed to play this as when I bought it for 50p thinking it was too good a bargain to be true I was right. It turned out I needed some kind of expansion pack to play it, which of course I hadn't got.

Tomb Raider [PC/PS1]: Yes, I had it on both PC and PS1, don't ask why buy I bought practically every PS1 Tomb Raider game for PC too, probably because they could easily be picked up for about a fiver each. Plus on the PC version you could save the game any time you want rather than at designated save points like on the PS1 version. I actually really enjoyed this game as it had some brilliant puzzles that made you think and really great gameplay. However I got to the the first Atlantis level and got completely stuck, no further could I go. :( As a matter of fact I have never completed a Tomb Raider game without using the level skip cheat. :o

ff8: gave up as i got bored with it, my worst ff game (my opinion obviously).

Dark Chronicle (dark cloud 2): finished the storyline which unlocked the optional 100-level dungeon with the first game's boss, genie, waiting at the end. My save file getting deleted and i lost motivation to go through the game again, it took to long

dragon quest V: journey of the cursed king: man, i found that game boring, end of :upset:

Rayman: Its space mama's fault  She was so hard to kill on the moon with the flying sauce pans and wahing machines which shoot lasers:D

Sonic the hedgehog: Always got stuck on eggman in the gardens, act 2, where hes flying in the sky and if you fall you die.

Did you at least get as far as the bit where you unlock the monster arena and the boat? I found the game to be boring early on, but collecting unique monsters to fight for me in the monster arena combined with the boat which allowed you travel much further than previousley possible really kept me interested - i'm still playing it now infact, freaking massive RPG.

But the size of the game is a little frightening at first as like you said the early parts of the game are boring. :( I also hate dolmagus to, i really hate every single aspect of him :crosseye: , he's got to be the worst villian ever

Oh god Rayman was so damn hard! It was one of my first PS1 games and I did quite like it though. Of course at the time I played it and got stuck I was not only young but a very inexperienced console gamer too (Amiga aside the PS1 was the first proper games console I got). If I played it again I might be able to complete it, who knows?

Yeah, Dhoulmagus is just terrible - same goes for King Trode imho, although Yangus is totally awesome :D If you've just got Angelo as a party member it'll be quite a bit longer before you meet Mori and get the monster arena unlocked, but before then the game gets better as you need to explore more and aren't always given a direct indication of where to go (i.e - paths and signposts everywhere) plus the battles will become more tactical and you'll want to concentrate more on psyching Yangus and Jessica up while using Angelo to heal (if you level him u with the bow he'll obtain a skill called Cherubs Arrow that costs no MP to cast, does normal damage and leeches MP back from the enemy you attack), and the hero to attack each turn while others psyche up and cure status effects - at least, thats what I do :smoke:

Oh god Rayman was so damn hard! It was one of my first PS1 games and I did quite like it though. Of course at the time I played it and got stuck I was not only young but a very inexperienced console gamer too (Amiga aside the PS1 was the first proper games console I got). If I played it again I might be able to complete it, who knows?

That reminds me: I never completed Rayman for PC. I bought it for PS1 and it felt a little easier: i managed to find all the cages then move on to the final fight against Mr. Dark. With the PC version i think i managed to find most of the cages, but the rest were just too damn hard. Maybe it was something to do with the controls? For me it just felt a little easier to play on PS1 rather than PC and it's a direct port. So i've only completed the PS1 version. Maybe i'll give the PC version another shot over Christmas.

Rayman 2 was a bit of a disappointment for me though: i struggled through the whole of Rayman 1, though enjoying it all the way, but Rayman 2 was just too easy and they added a load of random characters that i couldn't get attached to in any way. I missed Rayman 3 out completely because of it and i didn't like Rayman's new design: he looked just fine in Rayman 1. So here's hoping Rayman Raving Rabbids will be as hard as Rayman 1 and will take me nearly 3 years to complete, just like the original.

EDIT: Oh, and i have never complete Sonic 1: i've done 2 and 3, and 3 with Knuckles. And Sonic Heroes. But Sonic 1 kind of gave me the creeps when i was a kid: the face he made when he died freaked me out a little. :upset: And except for Super Mario Land and Super Mario Land 2, i have never completed a Mario game. I got very close to the end of Mario Kart: Double Dash until that got stolen. But Super Mario Sunshine just got too tedious for me half way through. Every time you'd go through the level, then you'd get near the end and you've got to go through this puzzle bit to get to a shine(?) and if you fall you die. I did a few then got fed up.

Sorry to Dissapoint Steph but Rayman Raving Rabbids is not a platformer this type around. It's more of a party game with over 70+ minigames are the story mode thing. It's Still VERY fun to play :D (On the Wii anyways >_>)

Thanks for that: i hadn't checked out any info about it (for fear that Globox is in this one too ) besides review scores until recently. Even though he is in it, i might still get it. But i guess it's never going to go back to how it originally was, even though the original was the best selling PlayStation game in the UK, apparently (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rayman).

And to get back on topic, i've never completed MGS2: Substance. I prefer Acid's gameplay: it's easier for me to control. But i have a MGS fan in my flat: maybe he'll help me with it someday. :p

I think the mini game version will only be a Wii thing as the game was delayed for other platforms so im guessing they are the normal platforming.

I never had rayman 1 on ps1, I had it on PC. :)
I found Rayman 2 awesome:nuts: Rayman 3 was really disappointing though, really short and easy. It did have some cool ideas in it though.

I felt disappointed after completing Rayman 2 and it made me glad i rented it. It was a 5-day rental and i completed it in that time, and it wasn't like i played it for several hours straight; it was just a few hours at a time. To me it just doesn't compare to the awesomeness of Rayman 1, so i haven't played any of the other games since.

TES Oblivion. Actually you can't technically finish the game. You can finish the main quest though, but the game continues.

I quit it because I was dissapointed. I thought it was going to be a better Morrowind (the previous one), but apart from the graphics, it lacked of everything else. Its Pseudo-exploration; a lot of quest, but linear (in Morrowind they divided according to our acts); less spells; less guilds to join; less "atmosphere", less characters; and so on...

Bootaaay
05 Dec 06, 11:24
I totaly agree, Oblivion is an amazing piece of work but Morrowind surpasses it in nearly every way. I hated the way they used instant travel and the adition of the compass, it basically ruined any sense of exploration in the game - in Morrowind you were forced to use your head and follow directions, whereas in Oblivion you just walk towards the map marker and instantly travel back and forth at no cost. Also, the game is visually stunning but it's art direction is so boring, the landscape basically consists of forest, steep hills and snow-capped peaks - theres no real in between, wheras Morrowind was much more diverse with swampland, rolling plains, jagged coastline and the ashlands - the graphics might have not been the greatest, but the variety in between different areas made it much more exciting to explore.

On top of all that Morrowind is much better for RPG'ing a specific character type - in Oblivion I found it very hard to play an all melee weapons character, it seemed like the game wanted you to use a little bit of everything but especialy encouraged you to use magic skills - this basically meant I ended up playing the same character every time. Also, the fact that there were no clashes between the guilds and factions meant you could do everything the game has to offer with just the one character, whereas Morrowind forced you to play through more than once with different characters so you could play the other house factions.

The biggest flaw with Oblivion in my mind however is that it has levelled enemies and items, I liked the fact that in Morrowind you had to be very careful when your character was at a low level, heading into a new region was dangerous because it meant you might encounter new and higher level enemies and I also liked the sense of becoming a hero and eventually godlike that the story and your increasing level gave you. Also, because the items in Oblivion in are set to your level, everyone who plays it will encounter the same items - in Morrowind the land was expansive enough and riddled with enough secrets and unique items to make the player feel like they've discovered somthing special.

In short, I was incredibly disapointed with Oblivion (still clocked over 250 hours on it though :p) but i'm excited that the series has gained so many new fans and a much wider appeal - which I think it's obvious thats what the developers were striving for, heres hoping however that the next game in the series progresses and improves on Oblivion to deliver a much deeper experience.

i havn't compelated alot of games... but you gusy have seen my very very vast collection of games...

being an avid gamer as well as a collector means i buy alot of games... many before i have a chance to finish another game i am playing at that point in time.
This means i am always changing the games i am playing... out of my hundreds of games i have only compleated about 35% of them... around about there... not because i don't like them, but more becausei get distracted.
Only the most awesome games do i make sure i finish straight away.... i guess i'm just weird like that

EDIT: YEs morrowind is FREAKIN AWESOME!!! words can't describe how much i love that game.. yet alas again i ahve not compleated it as it's a game you have to devote ALOT of time to...
Also on a side note, the first eldar scrolls game (arena) was another FANTASTIC game in the seris. you can now actually download it for free off the official eldar scrolls website. It may have inferior graphics, but i really sugest you gusy give it a shot... after all, it won't cost you anything...

I loved rayman 2, i think i was around 9 years of age. I liked it because it was the first rayman game i ever finished.:p I guess it just appealed to me then. Rayman 3 was extremely similar to rayman 2 but because i was lot older i didnt like it probably for the same reasons you didnt like rayman 2. :p

There are a lot of games I've never completed, but there are a lot that I have. I like games that are never really "completed," such as The Sims. But as a reviewer I have been forced to play through some bad ones just so I could do a fair review.

for me hmmm a while ago I dedicated some serious time to finish off games I had'nt completed.

so there only a few that I havent finished

Black (PS2)
got stuck on the last mission right at the end and can't be bothered to go back.

Homeworld 2 (PC)
I was happily chugging though the missions until you have to repair the dreadnought then everything seemed to go wrong after that "BOOM"
still stuck though.

reading thought the thread I found windwaker to be very easy but not boring very fun though.

and I only 100% games if they are worthy of that kind of attention ie zedla games, metal gear, heck I even played though HL2 episode again with the commentry on and I listened to every node.

Crazy Taxi [ps2] - Bloody boring

Deux Ex [ps2]

Baulders Gate Dark Alliance

The much shorter list for me is the ones I HAVE finished. In just about every game I play, there comes a point known as The Wall...that spot that's really hard to get past, which frustrates you just long enough for you to lose interest in the game.

Occasionally, I'll go back and get past The Wall, but most times I just move on.

Games I have finished:
All the Splinter Cell games (except Double Agent) on 360
Tomb Raider on 360
All the MSG series
All the Onimushas except the newer one
God of War
Halo
Perfect Dark Zero
Most of the Resident Evil series

There are more, but it's only about 15% of games I've owned, if I had to guess.

PC games are the worst, due to the inevitable hard drive reformats and forgetting to backup saved games resulting in having to play the game all over again. The worst one for that is Half Life 2. I've gotten well past 50% of that game 5 times now. I finally shot one of the disks with a pellet rifle so that I couldn't re-start the damn game yet again. Plus, Steam blows...don't want to deal with it.
