Is there anyway to effectively model trenches in ATF? The Mujahideen obviously used trenches (and caves) to move out of harms way and into new fighting positions. My guess is this is well out of the scope of ATF, but thought I'd ask.

Thanks,
Brian

There are different ways to model this. The first is to use the "Railroad Tunnel" terrain type. The problem here is that it truly is a tunnel, and therefore provides complete overhead cover as well.

Another would be to string a group of holes together.:D

There IS an obstacle type "Ditch", but it is only an obstacle. Maybe we can all ask Pat to code a definitive "trench" terrain feature into an upcoming release?!:devious:

That's interesting...I didn't know that. I suppose that would actually have to be a modification to the map rather than added in the scenario design?

I was thinking ditch too...is there an impact on infantry units in a ditch? Can they be seen? I'm wondering if a certain release based on Korea might be able to add it in? :) We'll have to talk to the genius putting that one together. :p

Yes, that is a terrain type used in map creation. I guess you don't have access to that, do you?!

Thanks Curt. I actually saw it listed in the tutorial, so I should be able to add it as terrain on a map.

Do you know how it works? Can units move through it? I was thinking of using it as part of a cave complex, but I'm wondering how easy it is to spot and how easy it is to move units in and out. I'll have to go check out the map editor a little more at some point.

Thanks again,
Brian

The simple answer is yes, units can move through it, and I believe the width and height allows for any current armored/wheeled vehicle to pass through it. It is essentially a tunnel, covered on all sides. It is, in fact, a tunnel, and yes, you can, indeed create a tunnel "complexe with it, but it needs some experimenting. As for "hiding" a tunnel,...well, I am using them in Raging Tiger, and it took me a few days to figure out how to hide them well. Maybe after Raging Tiger comes out.:D
