Hi All,

I have seen some scenarios where the HQ units have no Command or Support groups assigned. Sometimes, like in Europe Aflame (IIRC), they are not even attached to the formations... they have their own HQs formation.

As far as I know, the influence of the HQ is:

1. Enough number of Support groups improve supply distribution in the area
2. If command groups are lost in battle, formations must reorganize

So, when a HQ unit does not have any of these special groups, what is the real influence they can have on other units, dispite normal attack/defense tasks (or some Special Abilities like minor/major ferry, etc)? If there is no other influence, why do they have a Special Ability called HEADQUARTERS? What does it mean?

If they do not have command groups or support squads, then they are actually less fragile than if they do. This is because then they always function at full capability.

If the HQ's are in a separate formation (like the HQ formations in EA, for example) then they need to be set with appropriate support levels so that they have Free Cooperation with those you want the HQ units to augment supply for, and not, for those units you don't want them to augment.

You should know, that HQ and supply units with Free Support level give their bonuses to adjacent ENEMY unit, too :(. It's better to use lower support level, but the same colour scheme.

Wow, are you sure??? I suppose this is a flaw... or is there any reason for that?

Norm didn't drink enough coffee when he designed this portion of the engine?

Yeah...I saw your thread over at TDG, but I figured I'd let you take the glory for pointing that one out. Thanks!

Those interested can find Jarek's investigative work there. I would have posted a link but the site was down.

Rats, now Mantis will know why I've pulled all my German HQs off the front line in our EA game. :devious: ;)
