Halo 3
Up to here, nothing strange...but, "Are you willing to pay for a Halo 3 demo?"

In fact, it seems that this demo won't be available, as usual, for free: on the contrary, we'll have to pay Microsoft Points to have the honour to play the demo of Bungie's famous franchise last episode.

Clearly, this is only a rumour and we invite you to take it just as a curiosity. However...Are you willing to pay for a Halo 3 demo?

so, what? We're possibly even going to be charged for demo's now?
screw that... if they think people will pay for a fdemo, they can go shaft themselves...

Sadly....people will pay for a Halo 3 demo. Thats why the charge is rumored...

And to bring the fanboy out of me....if Final Fantasy was a paid demo....I'd get it....

Nope, not a chance... No matter how interesting the game is...

wtf?! why would u pay for a demo, the demo is meant to show u what the game is and a small snippet of it to see if u want to spend your money of it

thats ridiculous, the gaming industry is ****ed up

Its not killing the game industry persay....In fact the game industry is making money from it lol. So if anything its killing our perception of what the game industry should be. Like i said..people will pay for that....lots of them....they know it and thats why they probably will do it.

what i mean is the constant forking out of cash is going to turn alot of gamers away. It'll also scare away alot of potential gamers

Why would anyone pay for a demo?! I've never known of ANY demo not being free before.

Well the whole Demo = free school of thought is a new one. Remember Playstation Magazine? It was a pricy magazine because of the free demo's it shipped with it. It was $10.99 USD or something like that while all other magazines were $3.99 - $4.99.

XBL is really the beginning of 100% free demo's. Why? Because it helps sell games.

Sadly enough...I'm willing to bet that I could name one game for each of you that you would pay for the demo for.

Halo 3 is just a huge and popular IP that tons of people WILL GLADLY pay for it. Hell depending on the price I might even be tempted for Halo 3 and I agree with you guys lol.

Wouldn't Xbox Live Gold subscriptions pay for the demos (even for those with silver subscriptions)? Pretty much nothing in this world is free and when it is there is someone else is paying for it (e.g. government benefits etc...).

Yep, many will be annoyed that they will have to pay but many will anyway as they will want to get a hands on glimpse of the next installment of one of the biggest games franchises in the world. Its a bit like how I paid for GT4 Prologue which was basically a glorified demo of GT4 just to be able to get a taste of the game a while before it was released. Microsoft saw the opportunity to make money with this Halo 3 demo and took it.

No, it's a demo...

Isn't the whole point of demos to give people a taster of the game and to persuade them to buy it in full when it's released? Now they want us to pay them for their promotion? That's pathetic.

ehandlr
25 Oct 06, 12:20
Does Halo 3 need to be demoed to make people buy it? nah..its gonna sell like mad no matter why.....might as well make a few extra bucks while doing it....what are they gonna do??? not buy halo? That wont' happen lol.

Steph
25 Oct 06, 12:30
That's not the point though. Of course people are still going to buy Halo 3, and no doubt people will pay to play the demo. But it's going to lead other companies to start making you pay for their demos too. Next it'll be paying to watch trailers. :(

And isn't it no matter what? :p

aye...it is what..but I'm an idiot and therefore have an excuse.

Yes it will lead to more companies doing that.....just because they can.

you are right (as usual) but its also the gamers that are contributing to this download downfall! as long as gamers follow the trends and do what the games company want, then they will keep pushing their luck to the limits, i think what im trying to say is that if people didnt pay for it, they would have to make it free, but people will never stop paying for it, there will always be some rich snotty nosed little brat who can afford every demo, and is just buying them to be one step ahead of the rest, then there are the true gamers who just want to play and play until their eyes bleed, and its these "true gamers" who are suffering

ehandlr
25 Oct 06, 12:55
How are those rich snotty nosed brats not true gamers? Becuase they can afford it and you can't?

Let me translate all you just said:

"Wahhhhhh wahhhhhhhh I can't afford it so they shouldn't make it"

Sarcasm aside (and I was just joking ofcourse no offense)....I don't think we should have to pay for demo's at all. This is not killing the industry. They offer a product....WE choose to get it or not. If you don't like it or the price...don't get it......someone will always buy it.

chances are they had to make the demo anyways for meeting purposes etc....the cost of uploading it to a server for people to pay for it.....free! lol. They have nothing to lose.

Well personally, i hate playing demo's for games like Halo 3, which i know i'll buy..

I love the supprise you get, while working your way through a game you have never tried for the first time, with the rest of the nation on the day it kicks of, thats just me though.

I generally don't get demo's of any game except a select few from XBL. I'd pay for a FFXIII demo in a heart beat though...but thats the fanboy in me.

thats stupid, it defeats the whole purpose of a demo, to try out the new game...

this is just preying on fanaticism, and cutting out other people, who love their games alot, but either cant afford it or just dnt want to have to pay.

ridiculous.

ehandlr
25 Oct 06, 14:32
As ridiculous as it may be......it works. It will serves its purpose...people by the scores will be paying for this and downloading it.

I think the reason most of us are upset is because we know we are now a few dollars more poor lol.

Apparently there is need for this market though as people are willing to pay.

Jacques XVII
25 Oct 06, 14:37
but i dont have any extra money, im always scraping from the bottom of the barrell...

it says something about microsoft points...if that means u earn points through achievements then i guess thats ok, but thats highly unlikely what would be the point of that as it would just mean that there is a chance less people will be able to get the demo.

cain
25 Oct 06, 14:39
Come to think of it, if the price of the demo was to put people off buying the demo than maybe more people would buy the full game if they are unsure whether they like the game or not because they don't know what its like and have not made a proper judgement on it yet, which is ultimately what they want, isn't it ;)

Jacques XVII
25 Oct 06, 14:43
thats a good point but i think thats a bit too deep for the companies, because then the gamers who only buy games if they know they like them arent going to...

but then again i wont have a demo to put me off the game...

I would buy the demo if it was a game I wanted.

Before XBL, the only way you could really even get demo's was to pay for the disc at a store or buy the official magazine. This is just a way of making them downloadable. Sure it'd be nice if they could all be free, but if it's a game people want and are willing to pay money for the demo, why shouldn't they charge for it?

ehandlr
25 Oct 06, 15:09
*dies*

NO F'ing way! Dr. Boogie agreed with me on something?!?!?!

Ok guys..my time at Sengo is done.....time for me to go to rest.... lol j/k

Really...it is JUST a demo..you don't need it...if you can't afford it...no biggie...you plan on buying the game anyways. Halo 3 you already know is good. There is no doubt about that. You don't need a demo to make you want the game anymore then you already do.

25 Oct 06, 15:12
If it was about £1 or less i would probably get it on games like Colin Mcrae, GTA , COD and MGS

I just had an idea. You know how some PC game demo's offer exclusive levels not found in the game? Perhaps if most demo's offered exclusive levels before the game released more people may consider paying for them? It could be like an expansion pack released before the game or something to that effect.

paying for stuff like this increases revenue more revenue means more money goes into development, and the more money that goes into the developing of a game the better. As long as the price wasn't outrageous i might pay. I mean u pay for demo discs anyway right? so just cut the magazine crap and it'll probs be cheaper anyway!

ScorelessCoasts
25 Oct 06, 18:25
I will, and if it was a multiplayer demo, i'll pay more than double for it :p

Also No matter what, halo would be successful even if the demo didnt sell. Also you know theres always that one game you want.

Btw consider it free because you should be lucky for having the option to earn points by playing games instead of just buying.

Dr. Winston O'Boogie
25 Oct 06, 18:46
Right, and only smaller developers or games that no one's really heard of would find any value in putting out a free demo, because they'd hope it'd garner interest for the game. With a game like Halo that doesn't need anymore publicity or get anyone excited for the game, there's really no reason for them to put out a free demo.

Dernhelm
25 Oct 06, 23:59
i dont mind paying if its multiplayer :P

I would never pay for a demo. It would no longer be a demo then, rather a product. Demonstrations by their nature are free.

If this turns out to be true and the demo costs MS points, there will be a serious amount of pissed off people.

26 Oct 06, 07:51
Wouldn't pay for a demo of a game if it was just like all the other Live demos we've seen so far.

I would consider paying for a demo if it was actually the first part of the game, allowed you early access to that first part of the game and a small discount when the full game is released. Oh and if you could save your progress or earn achievements.... Or maybe if it allowed you access to exclusive content.

There will be a serious amount of pissed off people groaning as they kill the flood.......

This demo would sell so well it won't even be funny lol.
