I was gonna make this thread, anyway yes I have got it started it yesterday I didnt seem to have any problems it runs rather smoothly on my comp:D Im really enjoying it. Head over to www.steampowered.com and check the forums they should have a fix on there. Anyone who has half life 2 and is not sure about this game you wont be dissapointed:up: and Episode 2 is out at the end of the year:D

Solution:

oundBlaster Problems
If you have a soundcard (not a chip on the motherboard) what PCI slot is your soundcard plugged into?

SoundBlaster soundcards are infamous for not performing well on the lower slots (beyond slot 3 on most PCI buses). Other cards may also have problems. Try moving the card closer to the graphics card, or if it's already as close as it can get, then try moving the card down a slot or two.

On-Board Soundchips
If you have an on-board soundchip, there are several web reports seem to indicate there are problems with some on-board sound chip drivers causing this problem, here is one:

For both onboard and PCI soundcards there are a few things to try and eliminate this problem.

Get the latest drivers for your motherboard and for your sound card
Make sure you have all the latest O/S updates installed from Microsoft (windows update).
Be sure to get the latest DirectX version installed as well.
Don't Run Both
If you have a sound chip on your motherboard and you upgrade to new PCI audio card, you must uninstall the old drivers and then disable the on-board soundchip in your BIOS settings before installing the new card.

Try Turning off the Sound
Try disabling the sound card in the device manager: right-click on the sound card and select "disable", you can re-enable it later once we see if it helps or not. On-board soundchips can usually be disabled in the BIOS.

For HL2 games you can also add:

-nosound

In your game launch properties and see if that prevents the crash. Don't use this for HL1 games, it might cause a problem when you play online. You'll have to disable your soundcard(s) in the device manager for HL1 game troubleshooting.

I know it's no fun to play without sound, but try it for a while just to see if the problem is still there.

If the problem goes away then you know something related to your sound card or sound card drivers is causing the problem.

Phone Home
If after installing all the latest drivers and O/S updates you still have this problem, you might try contacting your motherboard manufacturer and see what their recommendations are, especially for on-board soundchips.

DirectX Acceleration
You can also turning down or disabling the DirectX Sound Acceleration.

You do this by going to your start button:
Start > Run > DXDIAG <enter>

Then go to the Sound Tab and turn off hardware acceleration, then exit and run the game and see if there
is any change. If the problem goes away then you can go back and move the acceleration up a step at a
time until the problem starts happening again .. then reduce the acceleration one step.

Two last things,
1.for HL1 games, in the game sound options, make sure that EAX and A3D options are UNCHECKED.

2. There are reports that some sound codecs can cause this problem, specifically:
k-lite mega codeck pack

its the soucre engine tweaked the HDR effects are amazing the ighting is much improved and animation well Alyx has over 20 new animations aswell as other characters:up:

One thing in the graphical aspect on half life 2 was that the textures of the clothes were rubbish. i hope thats sorted out in the new one.

Im iin port prospect at the moment on half life 2, so i still have a lot to do. :p

No d0g dosent die:D , its Nova Prospekt but your nearly there just a few more levels.

Lost coast was a tech demo for valve to test HDR lighting it was originally going to part of highway 17 but they pulled, it has nothing to do with the half life story

Its a good game, Pity i never played all the way though half life1 as the halflife2 story follows on from halflife1 and the Black masa incident.


I had a slight problem with episode one where one of the resitence fighters got stuck for some reason it hadn't fully loaded him in or something, annoyingly it was the guy that was suppsoed to tell me to follow him instead just stood in a doorway blocking my path.

Reloading from save and doing that part again seemed to solve it, but it was a tad annoying.

I definatly want to get episode2 although its a crafty way to make money, considering i bet there will be a fair few episodes at $20 or so a pop.

Same goes with SIN.....

Ahh not to bad then unlike sin where there is considerbly more.

Only thing i had with ep1 was some sound glitchs espcially speech.

Im not sure if its the source engine or the creative drivers but its really annoying, and thats with an x-fi card :eek:

hey dragon if your intrested in playing the orignal half life all the way though why not do it in style with the source engine www.blackmesasource.com/flash/ and did you play the expansions at all Opposing Force/Blue Shift?

best bug i had was lost coast where i was supposed to fight a load of combine only it loaded the models in but not the rest of whatever it has to load.

they were all just floating in the air with their arms outstreteched sideways like scarecrows.

Make sure your graphics/sound drivers are up to date.

Does it hang at a perticular point or is it seemingly random, if its a perticular point Where does it hang.

When it hangs can you alt + Tab out into other apps or bring up task manager, or does it lockup your pc totally?

lol. NOOOO!!! I want it so badly. I've just teleported out of Port Prospekt and i have to say that was one of the most epic experiences ever in the game when you have to set up the turrets and defend yourself. This game is a legend.lol. :D

Well although that card won''t play hl2 on Full detial or anything it certianly should be able to run it without locking up

head over to http://www.nvidia.com and grab the latest version of forceware (the graphics driver) and see if that fixes it.

Just started hl2:e1 and finished it today within 5-7 continious hours of playing.

Btw it was in ma dads laptop.

What light thing? The citadel blows up while you and Alyx are on the train. The impact just wipes everything out in the area. Then in the trailer it shows Alyx hanging from the train.
I tried to shoot one of the advisors with the launcher to see what happens :p

The strider bit was awesome but difficult. Im going to play it soon in hard mode but with commentry on. :)

Where can you find a hunter? I didnt see one as theres meant to be one locked up or something.

The only time you see a hunter is in a computer screen in the citadel but you can spawn one think using the console but there AI inst complete so the AI is a bit strange.

First- Sv_Cheats 1.

Second:IMpulse 101.

Third:Bind x "impulse 101"

NOw just use the weapons and when u need ammo press x.

ANd if u want no damage type "god" in console.

ANd if u wanna fly type "noclip".

I had dial up when i got HL2 didnt stop me took all day but it was worth it:up: even though it was painstakingly slow

the release date of ep2 is supposedly Dec 31st

Yeah, its worth the long wait. trust me, you'll experience no FPS as good as HL2. :) My old pc was rubbish but HL2 still works. The graphics etc can be scaled down. ;)
