Here are the settings for the Round 2 Scenario.
DATE: 1500 Hours, April 1, 1943
LENGTH: 15 Turns
VISIBILITY: 19
WEATHER: Clear
MAP SIZE: 80x60
ATTACKER: Nationalist China (Player 1)
ATTACKER: Communist China (Player 2)
All Preferences ON except;
Command and Control: OFF
Reduced Squads: OFF
END DATE: Midnight, March 28, 2004
OBJECTIVE: Points, Points, Points ! ! ! Get as many points as possible. The number of casualties you take is irrelevant as long as you are getting points (killing the enemy and capturing Victory Hexes). The 2 Nationalist China players and the 2 Communist China players with the highest score in their battle will advance. This means the losers of a battle can still advance if they get more points than the other players in their group.

They should go out tonight. I am checking the match-ups, and checking the scenario briefing that will come with the files and email.

Three turns done and alot of shooting, but not one casualty inflicted yet. I think my barrels must be bent or something. Now, if Tanker would just hold still for a minute I might be able to get him in my sites.

I playtested this with another player (who is not in the tournament ;) ) and we shot a lot of bullets but didn't seem to kill too much. Seemed there was a lot of shoooting, running and more shooting. Get close enough to melee and throw some grenades and it should get bloodier.

Well, my game with Viking has been pretty bloody. My troops have failed to rally pretty much since they were shot at for the first time on turn 3 and he's been playing cowboy on round up more than SPWAW  The only thinking keeping some of the guys alive is the fact that they are fleeing faster than he can follow!! :cheeky:

:cheeky: Now you tell me my guys can't hit the broad side of Jupiter from three hexes away. However, Kaz took his guys out for target practice before this game...he just picking me apart! Nice playing, Kaz!
PS. My wife is cheering for Kaz---don't flatter yourself, pal...she is cheering for anyone who knocks me outta the tournament so she doesn't have to hear "ratta-tat-tat" all night long! :surprise: ! :-)

Congratulations to you VikingNo2, well done, and thanks for the game. I'll refrain from calling it interesting since it was a tad bit too one sided for me!! :D

Go ahead and set us up something small (busy with the Tourney, Combat Campaign and RL). Preferably a Meeting Engagement, any time period and sides.

How are the others doing in this battle? Tanker keeps going away on business so we are only on turn 8, IIRC. We'll try to pound out turns quickly once he gets back today, but we may not be able to make the Saturday deadline. Can we get a couple day's extention?

Sure just keep me updated. I believe the cut off date is the Sunday, March 28th so you still have about 1 1/2 weeks. Just keep plugging away.
Yo All,
We finished tonight. I don't want to provide any spoilers other than to say it will take a lot for me to be in next round as our game ended early and neither of us had high points.
If you guys take on Kaz in PBEM for the ladder...he is a great opponent! Tough, fair, and quick to adjust his forces as the battle changes!
Thanks, Kaz. :)
You are too kind Steeler.
This last battle taught me many things, especially about research and looking for the little things that make big differences.
Once you figured out what to do you did it well.
Well fought Steeler and I look forward to next time.

Scores, give us scores!
Tanker and I have one turn left. I'll post the score tomorrow if Tanker can get to it before he goes away again. IIRC, he's got to take off again tomorrow (today really, since it's almost 2 a.m. now.)
Well RB I finished the last turn before leaving. I only had 2 sqds left and obviously none of the VH's. I've never played with easily suppressed troops before and it was quite an eye opener. I never could quite get them all out of suppression at the same time and you snapped them up one at a time. I sent the final turn to you as well as DD. Good job and good luck.

Hey Tanker, that's two emails you've mentioned you sent to me and I haven't seen either one. Can you send both of them again?
Or, DD, can you at least send me a copy of the final turn for this tourney?
Thanks,
Bob

Headed your way.
I agree, playing with the low morale troops was an eye-opener.
It did teach me a lot about when not to rally troops. It seems to be a theme that I am learning about these days - morale and experience factors and how they affect the game.
I thought I had the superior troops because the rifle was much more accurate. I just had to get in close (about 5-6 hexes). However, as soon as I came to within 12 hexes of the enemy I was shot at and movement would often stop. The enemy would stay out of my range so I couldn't even shoot back. I tried using smoke, keeping my platoons close together as well as doubled up. However, I think I should have stayed back in the woods and kept all my cav in one big group instead of 2 or 3. That way I may have been able to overwhelm some of the enemy before the rest could arrive to help.
Still, not being able to rally was the major cause of defeat. Morale of 29-35 was challenging, especially when the enemy tended to be around 50.
I was only able to kill one of the enemy and that was early in the game before Steeler and I understood what was happening. After that it was pretty much a route, though I did have a counter-attack planned.
All thoughts for next time.

Game over:
Me 650 pts
Tanker 25 pts
I did have the advantage since I've played a big battle with Nationalist Chinese against Commie Chinese. The key is to set your op fire range to max because pinning is so easy against both of these nations. Units pinned and strung out all over the place are going to get eaten up badly once the suppression starts to mount.
It was like adding straws to a camel's back for about 6 turns (i.e. no casualties) but once the suppression added up enough and the squads started breaking, then superior numbers could swarm over those unlucky enough to be in the front.
This scenario would be quite difficult for players used to pounding away at each other in the late war years with all that "newfangled" equipment and highly trained soldiers. DD, you should post this as a training tool for newbies. It's not terribly exciting, but it teaches some hard lessons.

Well, gentlemen. An impressive group of warriors. I've read the posts from the victors and the defeated. You are all apparently very good at this.
My encounters with Valkyri (one tough hombre!) and with Na4Med-Sergey (another hard fighter) have proven to be quite an exercise in warfare.
I'm not sure if I'll be in round three, but I'm hoping. Sergey has made some brilliant defensive moves to counter my thrusts.
I think the rest of you are finished but maybe not, so I'll hold off on detailed commentary.
We should be done by tomorrow...WB

Why do I get stuck playing V2? I've got the best scores in both Rd 1 and Rd 2. Why do I have to play the top ranked player?
Besides that, I've won 2, V2 has won 2, the other guys are 1 & 1 and 0 for 2. :(
Not that I'm competitive or anything.

Bob;
There's more than one way to look at it. Advancing to the finals is a matter of scoring the best as Player 1 or 2. In this case you and I are Player 1, and you are 2-0 and I'm 0-2 in the Tourney, so you could also say you are playing against the worst Tourney preformer so far. It's a glass half empty, glass half full kinda situation. ;)

Thanks Val.
That's curious, the Commies all lost by large margins, mine being worst :o I'm wondering what results DD got when he play tested this scenario. Did the CC win any games and by what margin? One wonders how the Nationalists got pushed all the way to Taiwan? ;)
Thanks Val.

LOL, well, maybe with a combined arms force mix you'd get a better result, but just straight up Cav on Cav like that, the Nationalists had a big advantage. Rifles with a range of 12 versus Rifles with a range of 10. Since both sides had crummy morale, so just about any fire, even from 600m, pinned and supressed the hell out of the troops. A good player figured out in short order if I start firing at 12 hexes and close in only after I get them all running in the wrong direction and I'll do just fine :) I must say, I was shocked as could be to see I had advanced, and then saw the scores and figured everyone had as rough a time as I did. Felt a little better about myself too :D

I don't want to sound like a complainer but, the set up for round three is screwed up, Player one goes first the roads funnel his forces to a singel point. So his forcese are now massed at the bridge. Player two forceses are split and can't link up due to the short game and the rough terrian, then you add in a high vis so now ontop of the other things I mentioned there is noway to have cover. So all player one has to do is rotate shooters on the hill by the bridge and by shere odd will kill any approaching forces that are split and can't link up because of the reasons I mentioned before. Form turn one I know I'm going to lose, I would mind if it was a point thing were if you pulled something out of your butt you could advance but thats not it its a most points wins scenario. Player 2 will never win in this set up. Unless they charge ahead with now reason after they reach the bridge. The setup needs work IMO lower the vis so we can manuver some

Remember you are not really competing directly against your opponent but against the other player using the same force/OOB. It is a matter of who does the best with the forces given for each similar nation. Valkryi is a perfect example. He lost his 1st 2 battles BUT managed to do better than the others using the same forces.

I think the comment I made about only winners move on this time was confusing. Yes you are competing against the other player who is using the same nation and not necessarily you scenario opponent.
