We've known for some time that the friendly aircraft losses in the Air Briefing showed the true total of friendly aircraft permanently destroyed in the current turn. Aircraft temporarily sent to the pools were not included. But the enemy aircraft losses reported in it were known to be inaccurate in some fashion. Was it a total of the permanently destroyed and the temporarily sent to the pools, or what?

I believe I've finally figured this out via recent analysis of a large number of CFNA game turns. My conclusion is that the enemy aircraft losses represent only permanently destroyed aircraft, but multiplied by one of three randomly chosen multiples. Those three multiples are: 1.5, 2.0, and 2.5.

So if the true number of enemy aircraft destroyed was 50, for example, then the Air Briefing would report either 75, 100, or 125 enemy aircraft losses. Fractions are rounded, of course.

If the turn is saved, one can toggle between these three possible multiples, provided TOAW is closed between each reloading. Even without this, in some cases, a bit of amateur number theory can figure out which multiple is in use. For example, if the number is odd, then you know the multiple is not 2.0.
