I've never been a big WW3 scenario fan. Not sure why really. But I d/led a few recently and I started wondering: what's the "best" WW3 scen for toaw out there right now?

I'm talking something that covers most of Europe...any time from post ww2 to the present...any scale.

???

After seeing them all and having designed a couple that didn't make it through the door, the best is Berlin Crisis 1961 v1, by Steven E. Stevens, which is currently undergoing testing at TDG, mainly because he has chosen a period were there was no clear qualitative superiority by any side and has used declassified documentation to get things right. There is one caveat, though, since the events may lead to peace breaking out

I'm a newb, so I don't have much comparative experience. But NATO-Warsaw Pact 62, on the TOAW-COW disk, is a lot of fun. I'm about three-quarters through it against the computer as NATO, and currently my offensive is stalled outside Essen, Antwerp and Strassburg, with the capitalist running dogs steadily gaining strength. I waltzed all over the map during the first half of the game, but just didn't take enough territory before the tide shifted . . .

The basic idea of the scenario is that the Warsaw Pact player gets 14 turns to run roughshod over NATO, and then has to try to hold whatever the Soviets have gained against the NATO counter-attack. There's a lot of mobile warfare, and the shifting roles of the two sides keeps things interesting throughout the game. There's nukes, but only in limited numbers, and lots of airpower to play with. The equipment is pretty interesting, too. Although there's some fairly modern stuff like MiG-21s, T-62s and M-60A1s, there's also a large Panther contingent in the East German army, MiG-15s for some of the Warsaw Pact countries, and even a few M-5 Stuarts in the NATO recon battalions! The scenario is not too large, so it's pretty fast-paced. Joe Bob sez: 3 stars, check it out! :cheeky:

Equipment and TOE wise, the scenario sucks. The map could do with some improvements too. This is what got me writing the scenario that served as basis for the one I mentioned above.

Yea, I tried Nato-warsaw 62 some time ago against myself. Got kinda bored with it after a few turns. It's all hypothetical so the history, other than odd-ball out of place equipment, doesn't bother me if it's goofed. So long as it has some interesting events, options, etc and it's playable.

But as you say Moriturus, I'm looking for WW2-scope w/modern equipment. Not necessarily 80s-2000 equipment. 60's is cool. Soon as my schedule frees up a little, maybe I can get in on a little Playtest.

We'll see.

Got kinda bored with it after a few turns.Well, if you're hot-seating and you know the other side's positions, it's going to influence your decision-making when you switch sides, no matter how hard you try not to. One of the fun things about the scenario for me was not knowing what was coming next. The scenario favors the Warsaw Pact, so playing alone I'd recommend taking NATO.
