View Full Version : Revolts and Hex Ownership
G'day everyone,
Firstly, my apologies if this has already posted; I'm new here and still learning the ropes.......
I'm currently designing a WW1 scenario, based on Harry Turtledove's 'Great War' novels. Think American Civil war with machine guns and dreadnoughts. This scenario is set at the divisional level, on a 25km hex map of North America (most of it anyway). It's a real labour of love, and has taken me about 18 months on and off to get to the point where I'm almost finished the draft version. Anyway, one of the things that I'm unsure about concerns a couple of revolts that will take place as part of the scenario. How do I do this through the event engine?
What's meant to happen is that disaffected groups (Mormons and Negroes) will rise up, within 'enemy' territory (read the books to find out why). Anyway, I've set the units to arrive as reinforcements, activated by the appropriate event. But will they appear where they're meant to? The arrival hexes set for them will be enemy controlled. Will they still appear there (very few of the units will be guerrilla, mainly irregular or infantry), or will they show up miles away?
I'm thinking I may need to put in a few 'Toggle Ownership' events, but how can I be sure that these will activate exactly on time- too early warns the opposition player, too late sees the units arriving miles away. Will it suffice if these events are the ones that activate the units themselves?
Any ideas?
Cheers.

Only units /w guerilla symbol can be deployed on enemy controlled territory. If you dont want the guerilla symbol for the revolting units just add a small unit on the first line in the formation with a guerrilla symbol and then set the whole formation to enter the hex...Then withdraw the guerilla unit next turn. This will (IIRC) deploy a whole formation on the hex which the guerilla units converts when deploy....Not 100% sure of this solution...but its woth a try...

I have done this for a Spanish Civil War scenario. In your case it's going to be easier as you don't have alternative units. Use a toggle ownership event and link the appearance of the unit to the event (When you set the unit as reinforcement) I don't remeber why, but I used 3 events so it may be that just toggle ownership doesn't work and you need an additional event (activated by the toggle ownership one) to get the units to appear. Or it may be that since I used a % of the event happening I needed that event...
I managed to sort this one out, for a Mormon revolt in Utah. Did it as follows;
Event 35: Turn 42: News Only: Mormons Rise up in Utah.
Event 36: Activated by Ev 35. Toggle Ownership Hex 60,55
Event 37: Activated by Ev 35. Toggle Ownership Hex 60,57
Event 38: Activated by Ev 35. Toggle Ownership Hex 60,59
Event 39: Activated by Ev 35. Toggle Ownership Hex 60,61
Event 40: Activated by Ev 35. Add Supply Point Hex 60,59
All Mormon units set as reinforcements, activated by Event 40.
The result is that on Turn 42, a news string announces the uprising. Four hexes in Utah change from US to Entente player control, with a supply point in Salt Lake City. The Mormon units arrive as reinforcements into the toggled hexes.
Nice to see things actually work for a change........
