View Full Version : Question Re: Logistical System in NATO 1962 and etc.

I'm playing NATO-Warsaw Pact 1962 as the Soviets, and on Turn 14 I received the news that "NATO BREAKS WARSAW PACT LOGISTICAL SYSTEM." What does this mean? I've been plowing forward non-stop because, well, because I can: the NATO forces haven't really been able to make a stand yet. (I'm just past Stuttgart, on the outskirts of Essen, and halfway between Amsterdam and Oldenburg.) Just about all of the supply circles in the front lines are 10, as they have been for the past turn or two. Have I just outrun my supply lines, or is this some kind of event-engine phenomenon related to the upcoming NATO counter-attack? And what's the effect? I still seem to have the same supply net as I did a couple of turns ago.

Also, I have put some effort into overrunning airbases, because IRL this is generally not a happy thing for the units stationed there. However, I don't seem to be catching any aircraft on the ground. Do the air units at an overrun base just leave? If so, do they suffer any ill effects from having been nearly overrun?

Finally, a bridge repair question: I have one railroad repair unit which has over several turns fixed two broken railroad and bridge hexes in Hamburg. On the other hand, I have two others which have been trying to fix the two bridge hexes at 25, 40 and 28, 40 for several turns, to no effect. Why is the guy in Hamburg more effective? Better supply? (The overall effectiveness ratings are similar for all units.)

to my experience:
when you overun airbase, planes don't suffer damage, they just move to another airbase. but by doing this they are subject to reorganisation. so it is good to overun airbase as it can make the ennemy fighters reorganising.
For repairing bridges, if i understood correctly what you said, all the units have the same engenering level? so for my part i would say it depends of luck
if you have 70% of minor ferry capability, there is still a posibility to fail in repairing bridges.
hope it helps ;)

"NATO BREAKS WARSAW PACT LOGISTICAL SYSTEM." What does this mean?

It could be anything. Most likely your force supply level (which factors into supply for every single unit on the map) has been reduced. You can find out for sure by opening the scenario in the editor and finding the event that triggers that news string. From there you can trace it to figure out what it does. Unfortunately, the editor isn't very friendly in this respect, but I don't imagine there are too many events in that scenario, so it will probably only take a moment.

As Viridomaros pointed out, they just rebase to the nearest available airbase (unless there isn't one, in which case the unit effectively evaporates). It puts them into reorg though doesn't really kill any units (if you think about it, the planes/pilots would just fly out if their base was in risk of being overrun and they were for some silly reason, still in their base which became the frontline [high command asleep at the wheel]). It's a shame though that you can't land paras/partisans/special forces to actually attack airfields (as happened) and destroy planes on the ground, but seeing as a turn based system has limitations (you can't "react" in the tactical sense) I prefer rebasing over destroying air units attacked by ground units.

(The overall effectiveness ratings are similar for all units.)

What are the engineering levels for each of the units?

What are the engineering levels for each of the units?
OOOO, 9-11% for all of the units. That explains it. I guess I just got lucky in Hamburg . . .

Thanx for the help, guys!:cheeky:
