I've just received the following message from my internet provider, Don't think that it is a hoax:
We have reports of new variants of existing viruses arriving in a password protected ZIP file. Inside the message body is a message with the password required to extract it. If you are not expecting a password protected zip from the sender, DO NOT open it and put the password in. Because it is inside a password protected ZIP with a random password there is no way currently for virus scanning software to see it until it is extracted on your local computer. Solutions are being looked into by various anti-virus companies and Star~Net. Since blocking all password protected attachments would eliminate legitimate attachments we can not simply block them all. We will send an update later or in the newsletter about this issue.
