View Full Version : Need help: Game not working
Hey all,
Ok, here is the problem. I have had to installed COW on a friend's notebook at the moment. It is a Toshiba, plenty of video & RAM, loaded with XP Professional. I loaded the game & 1.04, put in EA & went to make my turn vs Mantis, but I can't get the unit command menu up. You know; the one that says disband, mobile, fortify embark etc. It's as if it won't read my right clicks on the notebook, but that is working just fine in Windows. If the problem is that I need to run under 2000 compatibility, could someone please give my the instructions as I don't have the manual with me?
Thanks a lot,

Find the program icon and then right click...youŽll find the option somewhere there...
1. Right click on the desktop icon.
2. Select "Properties".
3. Select Compatibility Tab.
4. In the "Compatibility mode" box, check the small box marked "Run this program in compatibility mode for:".
5. In the drop down menu immediately below this, select the mode you wish to run it in.
I run "Windows 98/Windows Me" mode on my WinXP Home version. I also use a Toshiba laptop.
Others use Windows 2000 compatibility with success. Your mileage may vary.
Regardless, make sure that you have up to date video drivers for your laptop's graphics card.
Good luck.

This sounds more like the scenario is booting up with the "Standard" option selected instead of the "Advanced" option. When "Standard" is selected the right clicking on a unit is disabled.

You're probable right on this one. Good eye! Never play with anything other than Advanced Rules, so I keep forgetting all the good stuff (nay...essential stuff) that is cut out of the game when you load up under "Standard" Rules.

It's only because I have had the pleasure.
In the advanced rules there is also a button for "Scenario Variability". Do not ever, ever, ever turn that one off. It will take you a month to realize something is wrong, and then if you don't happen to stumble on the cure, it can take an eternity to find the fix.

That has fixed the problem. Now onwards to victory!!!
I love how helpful you guys all are. THANKS AGAIN!!
