From Talonsoft in fact. Just came today. Even got manual, which was slightly strange because it looks like someone photo copied it and then stapled it together. So this is my first post and hopefully not my last. I'm a regular on the Paradox boards (folks on those boards suggested to me I get this game.) I looked around but I can't really figure out what the latest patch is. 1.08 or 1.05 I'm not sure where to find these all. Also some suggestions on scenarios to get would be nice. Thanks in advance.

i supose you are talking about century of warfare, last patch is 1.06 but for several reasons every one here use 1.04
i suggest you to play some small scenarios at first: 2innorm, kharkov42, crete 1941, balkans 1941. Because some maps are so big that you can feel lost for your first game, also try to choose something with more or less 20 turns
welcome on board, i wish you a lot of fun

Why does everyone use 1.04. This was thing that confused me abit. I see people writing about patches but saying that some are broken. Also what is GiO 1.07? I thought it was part of the patches or something.
GiO is a scenario, gotterdamenung [spelling] im osten.. about the final soviet counter offensives in the east [last year of the war].

You may want to read some of the articles and FAQ's in the TOAW Section HQ (http://www.warfarehq.com/toaw/toaw_section_hq.shtml)

Another good beginner's game is Arracourt: only 8 turns long and not many units. A good way to play it is to set the game for two players and play both sides so you can see the exact consequences of your actions. Also, read the articles and FAQ on this website; they are very helpful in explaining some of the more complex aspects of TOAW (such as squeezing the maximum rounds of combat out of each turn).:)
(folks on those boards suggested to me I get this game.) .
And it's a mighty good thing for you they did.
Congratulations on getting the best wargame on the planet. :D

I can only agree. If you ever had plans, drop them. From now on, you'll be a slave under TOAW. Sorry.
Congratualtions or my deepest sympathies.

DB is right. It starts with one PBEM game. Then you have three. Then have five. Then you have eight. Then you have so many you lose track of how many you have. Then you have so many that you lose track of what turns you should send to whom. Then you have so many your harddrive starts to sag from all the .sals. Then you have so many that you eat all meals at the computer left handed so you can keep attacking. Then you have so many you wake up in the middle of the night suddenly unsure whether you selected the Theater Option you meant to select in one of your games.
Some of the early scenarios I enjoyed were the World War 1 scens: Balkans 1912 & 1913, etc. They aren't dynamic...no massive tank battles or give and take combat but they teach you the fundamentals of attack, defense, artillery and force preservation.
EDIT: oh and supplies. They are excellent for teaching supplies. Mainly because the supply situation for one side, if not both, stinks.
