View Full Version : Loading/Unloading Suggestion

POA2 is meant to played from the perspective of the TF commander - if thats so why do I as a TF c/o have to micromanage the loading/unloading of each and every section & element of a motorised inf company?

Wouldnt it be more realistic to cut out the micromanagment and simply have a "mount up" & "dismount" command that could be given to whole formations? Once given the AI could then ensure each section & element loads onto its carrier. Surely this sort of thing must already exist in the code for use by the AI side, so hopefully it could be done.

PS - If this whole formation "mount up" command can already be done please tell me how, I may have just not found it yet!

That's an interesting thought. Have you passed that on to Scott?

No Don, I havent passed it onto Scott. I'm a new recruit who doesnt know where to find him! Could you do the honours and pass it on in a quote to him for me?

Also got another suggestion: When a weapon fires you see a quick flash on the map of its location, thats fine. But Close combat is only displayed in the combat report box, blink and you miss it. Close combat is short intense automatic fire & grenades - not really hand to hand fighting in the pure sense, you would definatly not miss hearing it! I think close combat should show up on the map in the same manner as normal combat.

Also I can load/unload APC's ok but cant do it with helecopters and other vairious viechals like Jeeps & Land rovers. I've got build 6 of the unoffical patch.

Could you pass these along to Scott too and tell me where to find him for future ref. Thanks.

Ps - any news on the 1st offical patch?

Hi James
As far as I can tell you also have to micromanage each apc in a platoon for movement and speed changes when an HQ is loaded, it seems a huge step backwards from TOP2

I`m not up to date on current Tactics and Doctrine, would there be any reason or situtation where you would want to keep 2 platoons mounted and one dismounted. I like your idea but would want at least to retain the option to micro - manage platoons. :)

I wasnt suggesting you loose the option to micromanage, what I mean is a mount/dismount order that can be given to any formation wether its a platoon or bat, it'd be like the "formation move" option.

Close combat reporting is being (has been?) changed in the patch.

As for the "mount up" and "dismount" options - excellent notion.

In build 6 I do believe that it was to have been tweaked but I for one still think it is not working.

Thanks for your suggestion - and I apologize for taking so long to get back to you. I’ve been out of commission the last couple of days because of a motherboard failure.... and it was like pulling teeth to get it fixed. What really made it bad was that the first two replacement motherboards I bought were also bad right out of the box, which led to lots of ... other issues and having 3 computers in pieces all over my office (and 12 cats thinking it was Xmas all over again<!>).

In any case, I’m working on this loading thing now. I agree that given the macro “slant” of the system, this is a necessity. FWIW, the code for this did not previously exist, at least not in a form we could use. So I’ve been writing it from scratch.
