BTW, interesting fact. I originally thought "Stryker" was just a bit of marketing fluff on the Army's part. Well, no. As it turns out, the vehicles are actually named after two (unrelated) enlisted Medal of Honor recipients. Of course, I'm sure the fact that their names also happen to sound cool didn't hurt. I doubt they were terribly eager to name it the "Vlug Brigade Combat Team", for example, however valiant PFC Vlug might have been.

Coincidentally, there has been only one other US Army vehicle named after an enlisted man: the ill-fated Sgt. York DIVADS. Hmm... I see a trend developing here...

Very nice work KBluck. I really like what you did with the Engineer version. If you want I have an M198 155mm Howitzer towed complete. It comes with an M1084 (your piece) and also the M939A2, if you want them. I made it for John Osborne. However, I don't think he'd mind.

Sure, contributions welcome. Have you noticed that there are almost no overheads to be found of towed artillery pieces? The only one I've ever found was a D-30. I've taken to rooting through hobby store model collections; sometimes the models or reference books have three-view drawings included for painting purposes. I guess rendering artists are only interested if it has an engine.

I'm not entirely happy with that plow blade. The colors ended up goofy somehow. I'm also planning on adding a mortar chassis with the proper firing roof cutout.

BTW, a scenario tip if you (or somebody) would like to do something with 3rd BCT 2nd Division currently deployed in Iraq: from what I've read, they deployed without MGS. It is apparently not yet ready for primetime. Besides being overweight and oversize, it reportedly has a distressing tendency to "capsize" when the main gun is fired off the centerline, especially when the ground isn't firm and level. Yes, firm and level --- that's exactly what I picture when I envision a battlefield. Not! Maybe they'll add some hydraulic outriggers for the crew to drop before they fire, like a crane truck.

:hmmm:

In the meantime, the Army has substituted the ATGM version shooting TOW-2Bs and a new "bunker-buster" thermobaric version. I'm not sure if that one is fielded yet, but they've been working on it since 2001.

I'll email the pieces to you along with some HMMWVs I've completed.

I was also a little concerned about stability with the MGS version. From what I've seen of the vehicle firing, it must be quite a ride for those inside.
