View Full Version : Scenario design "error message"?

I have been playing with the scenario design editor some more...and now I have found that when I go to "create a sceanrio from scratch"....if I use "Level 3" at the start.....it allows me to load a map, then load 2 more data bases (the standard version I am clicking)....but then once I get to the load gun database (or the next one)...I get the following error message?

"access violation at address 0054A011 in module "POA2.exe" Read of address 00000000."

Anyone know what this is?

This game is getting about as buggy as RVS (and I think we all know where that game is headed....for those who have been part of that community).

I mean it seems like you can't play test the game...because helicopters and unloading / loading doesn't work....you can't edit the database because this was a bug and will revert back with the first patch......you can't learn the scenario editor because there is no manual or walkthrough...and you can't develop your own scenario's (do your on walk through) because you get either C++ errors...or just general fault errors like the "one above"...Ugh.

You can't download it yet because it is still in beta form and Scott is still making changes. There are still bugs in the system and it may take a few days longer than I originally thought to track them all down and fix them. As more and more people are buying the game we are discovering more bugs. Par for the course.

However...Scott has authorized me to share the patch with people who want it as long as they understand it is still a beta. It's about 2MB. Can your email handle that?

Also, if you have edited the weapons database you may need to reinstall the game prior to installing the patch. I edited some helicopter settings and then installed the patch. Didn't work. I got all kinds of errors because of my tinkering with the weapons system. If you haven't edited any of the weapons (or added new ones) you should be safe.

Don,

Does the beta version help at all? I mean is it worth it to download? Does it help with C++ errors...or with the error I mentioned above? Does it correct the helicopter bug?

I haven't changed any of the weapon systems ratings at all...I have made a few new "custom" units.....within the TOE...will that effect it?

If you think the patch is worth it, yes please send to my email.

Just another side note on scenario creation..

I think when realizing we (the end users) won't have access to the weapon system database it would be very helpful If HPS could "tweak / add" to the Infantry units /weapon systems.

POA-2 currently has only 1 "Delta Force" (special operations unit). However, the weapon system is only outfitted with M16A1 and Gernades...

It seems POA-2 should have 3 versions of special operations units.

1.a Delta (armed as above or with an M4A1 instead of the M16 and also have the use of both frag and smoke gernandes )....

2. a Delta armed with M4A1, M203 (gernande launcher with gun), and smoke gernandes...

3. a Delta armed with an M4A1 along with FAC capabilities and a Rocket Launcher for anti-armor needs....(all these units should have intercom as well as Radio communications)...

Having 3 of these operators would be very helpful to scenaro design and also is a very accurate reflection of how special op teams are being used to help the larger forces/units within the USA military.....SOP all have the above listed capabilities.

It might even work better to label these weapon systems as "Special Op-1, Special OP-2, etc" instead of Delta....and just let the scenario developers determine if they are Delta, Seals, SAS, etc.

I do know many on the boards (here and in the other 2 POA-2 boards I've been too) are saying it would be fine to live with not having an editor for adjustments to the "weapons system" per say......But if that is the case, it would be very nice if we could have a database of weapons that allows us to build units/ weapon systmes from within a "default" database that gives a variety of options within personnal /armor and so forth....

Hi Don, could you mail me the Beta, I'm also having problems, including the enemy only deploying in the flank areas when I create a scenario.

Don,

I would love to begin testing with the Beta patch, if at all possible. While I have modified the databases somewhat, I can easily uninstall and simply do a clean install.

Having the patch would at least allow me to stop reporting problems already addressed and another set of eyes never hurts.

Thanks,
Mike

John,

John,

I experienced the same problem working with the scenerio editor. I have reported the problem to HPS. Rich replied that they are aware of the issue.

I haven't had a chance to experiment with the Beta patch yet. Will let you know if this appears to be fixed.

Thanks,
Mike

Here is the list from the original beta. I don't know if more stuff is going to be fixed before this patch becomes official or not.

Point Of Attack-2: Update Versions
List of Changes

Version 2.01

Added/Adjusted:
- Reduced smoke generation from wrecks.
- Added close combat to reporting
- Broke out accuracy separately from kill probs on DF/targeting screens.
- Added "Bring location information window to top" Display Menu option
(or Crtl-H).
- Added minimize and close system buttons to Location Info Form.
- Streamlined AI routines for aircraft movement.
- Mouse scroll band/time values and LOS area display range saved as player
preference.
- Progress bar form smaller, and is movable (position saved as player
preference).
- Map view (zoom, position) returns to that used before the last game save
(for each player).
- Added "Standard Wargame FOW Setting": All friendly units are always known
correctly and completely. If an enemy unit is sighted by ANY friendly, the
entire friendly force knows it immediately at level 5 (no SITREP's).
Otherwise, no friendly unit knows it is there - and there are no historical
reports, e.g., "as of x seconds ago".
- Added ability to chage unit HQ assgnments and unit level in setup phase
using the Unit Info Form.

Things that didn't work right:
- Removed a bug that caused "access error" crashes.
- Fixed smoke/dust drift/dissipation routines.
- Focus unit highlighted on Unit Movement form.
- Fixed rotation for 0-360 units (it was being reduced to 0 degrees)
- Fixed close combat for "fractional" kills per pulse.
- Fixed bug on hits to non-armored AFV's.
- Fixed help file unavailability for unit targeting form.
- Fixed force being "reset" when bringing up help form when initially
selecting TO&E units.
- Fixed helicopter movement problem.
- Fixed "Novice" expert level options when selecting air and arty support.
- Fixed "Ok" and "Cancel" buttons on air and arty support forms.
- Fixed tutorial slide show not always being available.
- Updated hints/tool tips on Preferences form.
- The map display matches the force tree for compressed multi-part units.
- VP Locations now "stick" when existing scenarios are reset to the start
turn.
- Added "Reinf" notes to Unit Info form and Force Tree.

Just tried the Beta and the problem is still there, also still having problems unloading, but it's a lot more stable and it's great to be able to move that bloody progress bar!

Don, thanks for that list, I saw it also as a file within the patch you sent (thanks for that as well)...

I surly hope the Helicopters engaging / attacking issue is also fixed within the first official patch.

Download it right here. Remember, this is a beta, and HPS is still working on it.
