View Full Version : Leaders gaining experience

Has anyone discovered the real deal with leaders yet? The manual suggests that they actually gain experience from one battle to the next.

Leaders are assigned to units at the beginning of a battle. In campaign situations, leaders not killed or wounded in the pervious engagement automatically begin the battle as part of the force. New replacement leaders may also be assigned by the computer to offset losses (this is not a certainty, however). Otherwise, for non-campaign scenarios leaders can be selected from any defined in the leader table. A leader may only be assigned to a single unit in the force.

Leaders that are wounded or killed cease to have further effect in the current battle. In campaign games, wounded leaders may “recover” and reappear as a replacement in a later battle. In a single battle scenario, killed and wounded leaders “heal” automatically at the conclusion of the battle and may be selected for all future battles, although killed leaders will have their leadership values reset to a default level (see Leader Experience, below).
Campaign games? Is it possible to link a series of individual scenarios together into a campaign of sorts? I wonder if this can be a "branching campaign," where the next scenario played is dependant on the results of the previous. If this is possible--it's a huge find! We could create some really interesting stuff with this kind of capability. :cheeky:

Anyone have any insight on this issue? I'll try to get Scott to clarify.

Don,

I don't have a clue how "leaders" actually work. But I do agree, if it works as you/the manual seems to suggest is possible....that would be a very neat feature for future campagins..

Right now there is no campaign game, although eventually I hope to put one in down the road - something like in TOP2, only a little more detailed. Knowing that, as I was writing the main game I put “hooks” in the code and worked out the basics of the system.

However, I guess when I wrote that I wanted to include it for future use (so I wouldn’t forget), but then forgot to say it wasn’t active in the current version.

Nice catch. :D

HaHa!
That's like when I make a note to remember something then forget what the note was for
Campaigning would be very nice. Would this bring logistics and resupply into the mix then too?

Tiberius

Along with re-supply.....how does say aircraft placement work? I mean, must there be an airfield to have them placed on the map?

Speaking of "maps"...is the Iraq map anything more then just section of desert....with no real bases or airfields?....Can airfields be placed on a map?

Thanks for your emails, and please keep them coming.

I wanted to give you head’s up that I’ve been getting a lot of email lately and I’m going to try and reply to things in the order they were received, with bug reports the first priority. So, you may not get an immediate response from me, but hopefully we’ll get over the “crush” soon and I can get back to a more normal email schedule. I’ll also try and forward questions and things to Jeff, Sturm, or Rich when I can, to minimize the response delay.
