View Full Version : What kind of processor do you have?

Just curious. I have an XP1600 and am getting the impression I need an XP2800 or better to play this thing (which is more or less what HPS is recommending . . .

I get pretty good reults with it, but I have a fast computer. I'll install it on an older Athlon I have and see how it performs.

I believe a slower machine will run it, but you may have to wait a little while the computer crunches the battles. Fro small scenarios it shouldn't be a problem.

I'm running POA2 on my laptop. It's P3 700Mhz with 328MB of Ram and is running Win2K. This is well below HPS's system specs but all but the two largest scenerios perform reasonably well.

Granted, I am a patient person by nature so if combat resolution for a turn takes a couple of minutes, I'm OK with that...

The biggest difficulty I have run into has been in trying to create new scenerios. On all but the smallest unit level, the creation process just grinds to a halt.

Thanks,
Mike

Well I have an athalon 2800, with 1/2 gig of ram, and GF4 Ti 4600 128meg vid card.
The resolution of combat phase takes 1-3 minutes IIRC. Which is ok I guess. But the thing that I find really annoying is how slowly the whole map scrolls. Anyone else have these issues? :(

Just got the game yesterday - started off on the Athalon 1.4GHz w/ 512 megs ram, and it was okay - installed today on the 3GHz machine (with 2GB of ram) and it's much, much, much better :)

on the biggest scn it chugged a little (in comparison to normal). Running the big scn on the old machine pretty much made the game drag on.

a note to people w/ older processors - see if your comp can handle the Championship Manager 4 demo - that soccer management sim has a LOT of backgorund calculations, next to no graphics and so forth, and will give a good indication of how long it might take to resolve some combats in POA2.

Ie on my old 800MHx machine, it would invariably take longer than twenty minutes for the game (CM4) to generate a day.

just a friendly bit of advice so you don't fork out the money only to find the game is unplayable.

You have a decent system there, so I don't think that is the problem. I have a very fast system with the best video card money can buy and the maps still "scrolls" slowly. However, if I use the scroll bars I can drag the maps around very well. I think its just a problem with the auto-scroll feature. Perhaps this will get refined in a patch.

I agree, the "scroll" has to be adjusted. Way to slow / jerky.

So Don - I gather you have something in the neighborhood of a P4 3GHz/Radeon 9800?

Does extra video ram make any difference on the scrolling? I have a 128mb GF4 4400, and can't imagine 1) this type of simulation being particularly graphics card intensive, and 2) anything other than Doom3/Half Life 2 using more than 128mb of video ram.

How about a full review on my system! http://www.warfarehq.com/reviews/alienware_area51.shtml

I chose the Geforce FX 5950 Ultra instead of the Radeon 9800 Ultra. They are both roughly equivilent. In terms of graphics power this system is way overkill for POA2, but then I'm greedy when it comes to processing power.

I think there is a problem with the map scroll feature, as it is jerky even on my system. Not sure what causes that.

Nice. I would have gone with the 5950 too. You don't get the fog tables with Radeons, and that's important if you're into CM.

I have a 2500 Barton with 512MB RAM and a Radeon9800 128 card.

Will it do?

I could easily up the ram to 1GB...

Should have no problems.
