View Full Version : Problems with scenario #3

I ran into some issues recently when playing scenario #3.
I take it that units below platoon level do not show up on the OOB tree display? In scenario #3, for example, none of the infantry units show up except 1/E/506PIR (Abn). I guess this is probably intentional, but it can be misleading in scenarios with multiple squads running around.
I lost this battle and the AI scored a decisive victory on me. The endgame report showed the AI as getting points for holding locations? I don’t remember seeing any markers of any type for victory locations during the game, nor was there any mention of seizing an objective in the OP order. The OP order simply said “engage and destroy local terrorists.” I must be missing something here.
The minefields in the game [scenario #3] also confused me. The game showed "Minefield: 6 mines of 2 types" right in front of the approach to a bridge. But these mines didn't seem to do much because my infantry passed right through them without suffering any losses. I'm not sure if that's normal because I spotted them or what.
I never could get any of my units to fire on the enemy units I could see. I know this must have something to do with fog-of-war effects, but I can't seem to figure it out. I finally tried moving a unit right into the enemy hex. This seemed to work, at least partially. There were two enemy units that I could see and one was destroyed in close combat. The other one just sat there. I couldn't get my units to shoot at it, but no close combat took place either. This happened several times. I’m not sure if the enemy unit was really there or not! I though perhaps this was an intentional fog-of-war effect, but the endgame report showed that indeed there was an enemy unit there. Again, I must be missing something.
Thoughts?

This is a “multi-part” glitch - for some reason the entire Abn platoon is a muti-part unit. I’ll have to look into why. However, you can see al the units with multi-part off.

I don’t know on this one - I didn’t think this scenario had victory locations. I’ll have to look into it.

Mine detonation depends heavily on the mine density and field type, plus some other things. It’s likely the moving units slowed down, since they were spotted/known, which does give them an edge in avoiding casualties. I know the mines worked well when we tested them.

There was an issue with the close combat routines in the release version. In certain circumstances it didn’t seem to be working right. I think we got it fixed in the patch, though. But that’s a fix that is going to take a lot of testing to make sure.
As for firing, there are lots of reasons why you can’t DF. One was that there was a bug for units in the same location with rotation values of a full 360 circle. But aside from that, most of the times non-firing is due to flight path or rotation considerations (assuming the target is spotted).
Once the patch is out, if you still get situations like this, please send us the saved game (autosave.OPS) file. We’ll take a look at it, and let you know what the deal is, or if there is a problem in the code.

I’m know I’m sending in a lot of questions and I don’t want to distract HPS from work on the patch/adding new units. Hopefully, other players will read this stuff and there won’t be so many questions in the future.

:cheeky: Well, please keep sending them. It may take a while for me to answer, but I always want to know if things are wrong with the program or if people are having a hard time with something.

I had exactly the same experience as Don. I agree in certain instances LOS could be a problem, but I ran the scenario 3 times so far and have yet to have a unit engage anything other than close combat. I have attempted DF many times with the Abn and Maser units and always there are no available firing units. I also get the Decisive Victory by AlQueda victory loc message
In regards to the mines, in one of the three I played I attempted to cross the eastern bridge through the mine field with 2 platoons stacked. Both platoons were hung up in the minefield for the duration of the scenario. I figured it was possibly related to the density of the unit located in the hex.Is this a correct assumption?I would try more experiments but I'm about burned out on this scenario. My upstairs neighbor wanted to know if I bet on the basketball game yesterday," No....uh...why?", I asked. He said ,"I heard you screaming, SHOOT!!! Why dont you #$%#^&@ SHOOOOOT!!! and figured you had money on the game." "NO just a big hoop fan," I answered. I couldnt tell him its beacuse the 101st wouldnt engage the terrorist cell. They're ready to commit me as it is. :crosseye: :cheeky:
Thanks to Don for already asking some of the same questions ;)
Thanks to Scott for the personal support and for POA2

I’m going to knock off for today, but I’ll try to get to the couple of outstanding emails I have first thing tomorrow.

Harry-2,
That is a great story. I can just see myself yelling "Fking shoot.....Shoot!!"....Great story and totally understand not knowing how to tell them you couldn't get the 101st to engage!! haha.
